He was being real careful to land those whoppers without turning the kayak over. Sure looks like some fun.

Re: catfishing in a kayak

I'm not a fan of kayaks ( I can't swim so I prefer a wide bottom jon boat )
but I am a fan of hookin and lippin.
The past few years I have noticed a lot of folks carrying kayaks around on their everyday drivers roof racks. With some it must be a statement thing.

Re: catfishing in a kayak

That's the thing. You can have a kayak with you. I'm sure it's a statement thing for many.

My oldest Son just goy into Kayaking. His Kayak is outfitted with everything a small boat would have. All the electronics and a trolling motor.
He loves it and fish’s a lot so it’s easy for him to load up and go.
He’s doing a Bass tournament at Lake Comanche in Lodi Ca this morning. 5 man team with Biggest Fish winning $5000 for the team with a $40 entry fee.

Re: catfishing in a kayak

The fella in these videos mentions he's in catfish tournaments. He is pulling out big cats from deep holes like 100' down.

Where I live we have a ton of overlanders. You know people who camp, and drive there. Who leave damn near everything on the truck all the time.

So you know they can go camping anytime they want.

Re: catfishing in a kayak

I was searching something on my computer and came up with an overland business just down the road from me walking distance. I see these rigs rolling in from time to time. I think it's a really cool thing. I've done some of that type of thing in the past, out west. That leads me to the question that enters my mind when I see them, "Where do you guys go?". Kinda like wearing a cowboy hat around here, "Where's the ranch?"

I have nothing against kayaks, and have done some sea kayaking myself. But those people need to know how to strap them on. I had to dodge one that came off of an SUV going down the freeway right in front of me. I was the one "making a statement" in that situation.

Re: catfishing in a kayak

I have kayaks for touring and whitewater. I keep the touring one at my sister's place where we paddle the Shenandoah and the whitewater at a friend's place in the town where the whitewater I paddle is, so I don't have to haul them around.

I like all the jeeps with nicely painted color-matched all freshy new ranch hand jacks mounted somewhere as part of the decor. Goes with the $3000 set of wheels and tires they don't want to scuff up. The only scratches on the whole thing are on the door sill from hanging their foot out, driver and passenger, every stickin' where they go

Back to catfish. I like kayaks and I like fishing but I like fishing in a boat. There's nowhere for the beer in a kayak... duh?

Re: catfishing in a kayak

Check this guy out, he was a good friend of mine back in the day. Started a company called La Jolla Kayak Fishing in San Diego, catching marlins, sharks, you name it. Has his own fishing show now I guess, goes all over the world.
