Re: 72 chevy modern swap

I was curious if anyone could help me out on finding a 6 bolt pattern np205. I know they are like gold and everyone that has one wants to hold on to it. If anyone could help me out on finding one I would appreciate it. If not I will probably end up buying a advanced adapter kit #27-0030. Combining a 10 spline np205 to the 4500, but would like to avoid the adapter all together. Summit racing offers th advanced kit and its cheaper, thinking i will buy it threw summit and save 100 bucks.

Re: 72 chevy modern swap

Small modification to the frame, won't weld anything else in tell I no where the lines for the a/c are going. Got a good call yesterday, the specialty shop I work with called me and told me my engine would be here either this weekend or beginning of next week!

Re: 72 chevy modern swap

Pulled the harness off, and the manifolds but was taking them off and two of the bolts were snapped off. I managed to spin the one out, but the other may be a challenge. You guys have any ideas????

Re: 72 chevy modern swap

1) Weld a smaller bolt to it. Heat the whole thing up and squirt wd40 on it. Back it out slowly with half turn in. Half turn out.
2) drill it out, use an easy out to extract the bolt. Heat works well here too.
3) trade for a motor without broken bolts.

Good luck and Merry Christmas
Chris

Worried about the aluminum going to heck. Made a couple phone calls last night, and we have a local machinist that told me he made a tool just for problems like the one I have.

number one is my fave. i like to weld a nut to the busted bolt. a TIG welder really makes this easier. the heat from the welding does a great deal for breaking the corrosion that is holding the two together. the difference in heat expansion between the steel and aluminum helps in this case as well. anyhow, weld the nut and then twist it out while it is still warm. works well

number three is good too . or just replace with some l92 heads or something!

im diggin the column. i have been thinking about doing an aftermarket replacement as well

Re: 72 chevy modern swap

Ive tried that on a couple 350s but never worried me because of them being cast iron. Ill give it a shot on the 6.0 and let ya no how it goes

Also curious on standalone harnesses, I will probably end up running electric fans, I pretty sure the factory temp sense stays, but what about the oil pressure???

And if so I need to fine a piece for down by the oil filter because mine had a engine oil cooler on it, but i wont be using that.

Re: 72 chevy modern swap

there are a number of places that make block off or delete plates for the oil cooler ports. i think the GM number is 12577903

i dont know the secrets to the stand alone LSX stuff. if you want to use the OEM guage, you will just need to adapt a port into the oil galley for the OE spaghetti line that feeds the guage. if you are swapping to electronic guages, it will probably depend on if they interface with the computer or not. i am assuming the computer needs to see oil pressure to keep the fuel pump relay triggered, but that would depend on how you wired the fuel pump business too.

Re: 72 chevy modern swap

I plan on keeping the original gauges in the truck, just was wondering if the computer needs to read the oil pressure.

Finally pulled the box off! and in the garage it goes.

Re: 72 chevy modern swap

My god is the back of the cab beat to hell. Looks like I will be doing a little more than I thought. The previous owner must have thought he was quite the rigger.

And does anyone need of a ford bumper?

Cleaned up the frame and pulled the rear cross member out too. It needed some work so got it fixed. Going to get the fuel cell in as soon as I can.

Re: 72 chevy modern swap

If it looks like this inside it is, Chevy called it a No Spin, but its really just a Detroit Locker. Look inside the little openings.
