School me on driveshafts? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

While changing wheel bearings, found my front driveshaft has a lot of play in the slip joint. Had noticed a slight vibe on the highway, now I know why. Will any square body front shaft fit? I have a 203 case. Figure someone around here will have one for sale, but want to know what I'm looking for first. All else, I'll take mine to a shop...

No, you will have to find a truck with the same trans and t-case set up because they are different lenghts depending on what transmission and transfer case is in the truck. IIRC there are also two different ways the d-shaft bolts to the transfer case too. I believe yours uses small u-bolts that secure the u-joint to the yolk of the t-case and the newer (whenever they started using the NP-208 I think) uses a flange with 4 bolts.

when i owned a 4wd i found it was usually easier and cheaper to find a driveshaft shop and have them build one. i would go through a couple of junkyard ones before i would find the perfect one but got the perfect one the first time from a shop.
