WTB light duty 3 speed transmission from 55 to 66

I am looking for a cheap 3 speed Muncie to rebuild for my truck. The one in my truck is from a passenger car, I would like an actual truck version (solid round end of tail shaft housing vs "scalloped" end). I am looking to pay less than $100 if someone has one sitting around - I have found a few leaky ones here at home for over $250, that I would have to pull myself, seems steep to me for a non-coveted 3 speed transmission. I will be in San Diego from Dec 1 to Dec 5, if anyone there has one. Otherwise, would be looking for one from Saskatchewan - don't want to pay shipping. Thanks.

Pictures of tail shaft differences. The "scalloped" end on the right is what I have (passenger car), the solid round end on the left is what I am looking for.

Re: WTB light duty 3 speed transmission from 55 to 66

They made a fully synchro version of the 3 speed plus the overdrive three speed. If I were spending money to rebuild it I would go with a fully synchronized truck 3 speed for the ease of downshift into first without coming to a dead stop to avoid grinding first gear. IT was optional over the standard 3 speed. I believe the 67up borg warners were all fully sychro but not sure which year that became the standard.

Thanks for reply. A guy has a full synchro 3 speed in my price range near by where I will be staying in San Diego. I will probably go have a look. Need to research how much modification is needed to use it instead.

If your current transmission has the long tail shaft (about 22" as opposed to about 15"), the only thing you will need is a longer 1st-Rev shift rod - assuming a column shifter. Otherwise you would need to shorten your driveshaft and do the longer 1st-Rev rod. Good luck!
