Post Disc Brake decal on tailgate

I believe these decals were on 1971 trucks. I put power disc brakes on my 69 and I would like to put the decal on. Could one of you gents tell me exactly where it is suppose to go? Like how far from the top edge of the decal to the top of the tailgate and also how far from the right edge of the decal to the right edge of the tailgate. Thanks

Check on ebay, I saw a tailgate that had one on there a couple days back. Also look through the pages of previous posts, this was a topic a week or so ago.

They did come on '71. I'm sure any of the vendors here can get you one for a few bucks. eBay is a waste of time for inexpensive common items like that IMO.

I was suggesting ebay for a picture of one installed on a tailgate. I have never seen any decals for these trucks on ebay.

I believe the consensus the last time this was discussed was 1/2 inch from the left edge of the tailgate, 2 inches from the top.

Hey Ron, how do the new brakes work for you? How long did it take you to do the conversion? What kind of truck do you drive, and what was the donor truck? Did you just use the brakes or the whole front crossmember? Sorry about sounding like a 5 year old, but that is what I would like to do with my 70, and I am hunting for info on the conversion.

Thanks for the picture, for some reason I thought it was on the right side. I can get it pretty close by looking at the picture but if its not too much hassel could you give me the measurment? Thanks much, I'm nearly done with this 10 year restoration.

As for the guy asking about the Disc conversion. I have done it both ways, the complete front end and the spindels out. I have three trucks, a 67 and two 69's they are all converted. Getting the complete front end is the best way to go, easyier and faster. When you do the spindles outward you have to address the ball joints but they may be worn out anyway. It helps to get the brake lines also as the are the biggest pain to figure out. I have gotten new brake lines from Fine Line and they worked great. Make sure to get the booster and the p valve also. My braking performance has been enhanced and now I can install those killer Torq-thrust D's and show off my drilled power disc rotors. Good luck

Hmm now that you mention that maybe they have the placement measurements in the factory assembly manual, I think I have seen the placement measurements for other decal in there. I will check later

Looks like it is about 1 1/2" down and 2 1/4" from the left. I have seen these things put in all sorts of different places. I mean they are all on the left, but some are higher and some are over more??? I think they were put where ever the guy on the line wanted it that day. I know how that goes, I work on the assembley line at General motors!! Good luck with your truck, Joe

Re: Disc Brake decal on tailgate

We should coin a new phrase, "necroposting" meaning bringing back a long dead post.

By the way, the location dimensions for the decal are in the factory assembly manual.

Re: Disc Brake decal on tailgate

After searching through many threads this one seemed the best to post in vs starting another thread.

From what I understand it seems that 1971 is the only time the "DISC BRAKES" decal would be applied on the tailgate. It is on my 1972 and the truck has been painted, so obviously the decal is not original, but it made me wonder why someone would apply something that was not there originally, unless of course they just liked the decal and/or thought it should be there. So my question is: Are there any documented 1972's (pictures when new and/or with original paint) out there that had the decal applied on a 1972?

Re: Disc Brake decal on tailgate

when I drove the ochre 71 longhorn into town back in July, Joesjunk noticed there were two of those stickers on it, one on each side..

it was noteworthy to him and he took some pictures.. and pictures of woodgrain something inside that was noteworthy but forget what the heck it was..

The guy at the factory would have had a gauge block. You just set the block in place and line up the sticker. If he was using it that day.
