Sunday-Funday

My brother was in town for the weekend from SE Wisconsin. Saturday night was dinner with the whole family. Sunday afternoon him and I loaded up and had a range trip. All totaled we brought 31 guns, for 2 guys. The other guys there kept looking for more people to show up, nope.

The main reason for the trip was to see why he can't get better than 2" groups at 100 yards with his Remington 308. I tried my best and got it down to just a hair over 1". The thing has a thin barrel and scope with tons of mirage. He's going to buy an Athlon and see where it goes from there.

Another reason was to break his recoil anticipation. I handed him my 270 Savage and had some inert rounds stuffed in it. That worked. Within 10 minutes he was getting very, very small groups with it. Then I toughened up how shoulder with my lightweight Savage 7mm with medium and heavy-hot loads.

Then we got crazy and tried rifled slugs in our 12's, bad mistake. Do not try them while wearing summer clothing. Major pain!

We had shootouts as well. His 7.62x39 AR against my 6.8, then we switched. Same thing with his 22-250 and my 223 Axis. Again with other comparable rifles and handguns. That was possibly the most fun.

Since his 12 is only a 3" I loaded up some of my handrolled goose loads, 3 1/2" 1 5/8oz BBB at 1550fps in my Maxus. Three shots standing sent him back 5 steps

The range closed at 6:00, good thing since we both had enough shooting to last us quite a while. My shoulder was a little sore but his was very raw.

Monday morning I had to work but at 4:00 our whole clan went to a water park. We tried our best but didn't get kicked out this time. Those vertical drop slides can be hard on an old body.

Then our wives went picking strawberries while him and I did man stuff yesterday morning. Last night I hosted a big party for friends, family and neighbors. About 20 people in total. Brother and I started the firepit using charcoal fluid and 1/2 pound of pistol powder stuffed into drilled holes in the log. It works, just stand back.

He's heading back home in the morning. I'm just trying to recover from all the aches and pains.

Next year we go to his place for a repeat. He has a range 6 blocks from his lake house. I think I need to find a jet ski by then, hehehehe

Re: Sunday-Funday

You other guys need to step up and buy some yourself. We get tired of keeping the manufacturers in business and could use some help.
