Help on a old car,

I know it doesnt have a bed, and my Pontiac forum wont let me in cause my password is long forgotten. I have a 68 Lemans in the back of my shop that has been sitting like 10-12 years after my brother died and I lost interest in it cause it was kinda our project. I decided to do something with it and put in fresh gas and hit the key but nothing. .I kinda think it is in the ignition switch cause I can wiggle the key and the SES light brightens up. I had this car running many times before I just covered it up after my bro died.if anyone has an idea I'm all ears and very grateful. Jim

Re: Help on a old car,

Can you get to the solenoid to put a push button on it?
Make sure it is in Park or Neutral
Sorry for the loss of your brother.

Re: Help on a old car,

Yes an SES, I put a 6.0 4L80E in it many many years ago. In fact it was so long ago that none of the companies had conversion stuff for it. That won't have anything to do with my problems though I dont think. The starter button was a great idea but it is really hard to get to. Jim

Re: Help on a old car,

My guess would be dead battery. After 10+ years, a lot of batteries die. Even if it claims it is fully charged, it might have an effective cranking amp rating of 10 to 20 amps if you are lucky.

2nd suspect would be corroded battery cables.

3rd suspect would be mice chewing on wiring. They also like rubber gas lines.

Re: Help on a old car,

I got it to turn over but now no fuel pump I replaced the relay, and that changed nothing I have power to the relay but none coming out. I thought there was supposed to be two hot going in but I only have one. I placed a jumper from the fuse box to the fuel pump wire and now I have fire to the wire all the way back in the trunk where it goes out to the tank I plan to pull the tank and I'm pretty sure the pump although new when I built the car it is probably stuck. The problem with the no crank deal was ignition switch related by the way so I started out on the right track

Re: Help on a old car,

Hey Jim, hope you got it figured out.....other thoughts, ground wire to fuel pump, forgotten kill switch...how bad does the gas smell, I had the metal fuel tubes dissolve inside the tank.
Also should be 2 power wires to the relays , key on hot for computer...constant hot for fuel pump.....good luck... Ed
