Ok, in all seriousness. Literally talking to my wife about a new business. Can anyone explain to me why this garnered that much money? It is nothing special that I can see and I looked at all the pics. I can go buy 5 of these tomorrow. I have to be missing something.

They did take a 2WD and turn it into a 4WD. They didn't even rebuild the 352 and it still has drum brakes on all four corners. Still, I don't see it.

Re: Unbelievable BAT result!

Keep in mind that the fact that it sold for $130K means that at least TWO people were willing to pay $129K for it... Or perhaps only one person wanted it and the other bidder knew the guy would pay anything for it...

Why did it sell for that amount? I have no idea. Disposable income.

I don't see what the big deal is , the only guy that it should matter what it cost is the buyer , maybe he had one like it or his dad did ?

Re: Unbelievable BAT result!

This one has got me scratching my head. The truck does not appear to have that much money in it, no where near a total frame-off restoration. But nonetheless it went for show truck money. That much cash should have at least bought an LS swap! 352's were boat anchors. I have restored Bump-sides for friends, they are not too bad.

What is something worth? What someone is willing to pay for it.

Re: Unbelievable BAT result!

I'm in the "frugal'" crowd with Eric.
I also don't think selling price = worth (or perhaps I incorrectly associate worth with value). Someone got what they wanted and I'm happy for him - but it doesn't mean it's worth or has a value of $130K. He could maybe sell it tomorrow for $129K to the guy he was bidding against, but if that guy aint bitin, it's a loooooong way down to the next guy who is willing to pay what it's actually worth. I will say this though, he can at least drive it without worrying about getting a scratch in a parking lot.

Re: Unbelievable BAT result!

My understanding - rumor I heard - is that the build was done on a tv show or webshow so it is semi-famous, and that the bidding war was between two rich guys who know each other and are competitive with one another.

I follow BAT so I see pretty much everything they sell and there have been some serious headscratchers on there. First gen broncos are the craziest, they routinely go for more than the $130K that this truck sold for. Granted they have Coyote engines in them etc etc but come on.

Re: Unbelievable BAT result!

The price of this truck is not about the vehicle, it's about the bidders. Just got an idea for another post in the old sayings thread.

I believe what dagnabbit said about two rich guys duking it out. It might be worth it to the guy to stick it to the other and get a cool old truck out of the deal.

Re: Unbelievable BAT result!

I have a friend that was extremely close to his brother.
They were car guys all of their life.
When his brother died unexpectedly in a vehicle accident, his sister-in-law put all his vehicles and tools and etc. up for sale in an auction.
My friend paid WAY over what most everything was worth.
It was a sad day.
But no one was going to outbid him that day.

That's it. You never know what's going on behind the scene. That truck obviously meant something to whoever bought it and price was no object.

We'll probably never know why. People do crazy things. But there's always a reason.

In my case it's usually stupidity.

Re: Unbelievable BAT result!

How much do you think that truck cost to build anyway? I'm seeing 10k-15k in the axles, transfer case, brakes, and wheels. Another 3k in the suspension. The engine and transmission were probably 2k. The wiring was worth 2k. Interior and body work were probably around 10-15k.

Regardless, I see the price being asked for those Fords going up now.
