1985 Chevy Custom Deluxe

Hi guys I'm new here and thought I would post here because this seemed like a good forum. First of all I'm 17 years old and I love old cars and trucks. The truck I have is a 1985 Chevy Custom Deluxe, I've had the truck since I was 16. The truck has a 305 with a th700r4 trans. It has dual tanks and glass-packs. The truck needs a new bed and a lot of body work. Mechanically it is near perfect.

Frame looks bent you may need to straighten it out overall nice truck. the 305/700r4 is a nice combo.

I'd like to rebuild it to the stock specs because I still have the sheet for it in the glove box. And yeah I can try to get more pics what do you need?

No the frame isnt bent its because the back tire is flat and the bed supports are rotted.
I think its a nice truck for being free.

Re: 1985 Chevy Custom Deluxe

A few question/comments.

Free is always good, but unless you're doing all the body work, you might be easier to start with something with less rust. The bed would be no problem, but that floor and rocker are going to take some work.

Does it have a different front end? I thought 85's had dual headlights on both sides?

The bedliner looks almost brand new. Do you know what's under it?

All the body work will be done with me and my friend. He builds circle track racecars, so he has a nice garage and all the tools needed to do it. And yeah your right the whole front end was switched thats part of the reason why the grill say gmc instead of the chevy emblem. The bed floor is fine besides the supports. Why how would you go about fixing the bed? Oh and yes the truck is chevy I did look up the vin info.

Re: 1985 Chevy Custom Deluxe

When I said "No Problem" on the bed, I meant replace it. You could come down to the sunny South and find a relatively rust free bed and be ahead of the game.

By the looks of your bed, the $200 you might spend on a new bed would be worth the time/travel.
Plus, a nice road trip!

I was able to get a southern box in almost mint shape for about $700 Canadian so I'm sure you could find one fairly cheap, definitely much easier than repairing it. I joined this site at 19 & I'm 20 now so its nice to see some other young lads with love for these beautiful square machines! Good luck man!

I've tracked down a bed here in Kansas I'm going to probably try and buy here in a few weeks. Cruising Craigslist and being patient helps.

Re: 1985 Chevy Custom Deluxe

The front clip is most likely original other than the grille. The low trim models, such as the custom deluxe and some scottsdales, came with the one rectangular headlight and the turn signals beneath, like shown. The grille you have is 73-80 style, which shouldn't even bolt up. I'm not sure how you did that one. You have lots of work ahead of you, but you should be able to get it with enough time and hard work.

Yeah thats what I meant. I did not put that grille on the truck it's what was on it when my dad bought it many years ago.

Thanks, I have always liked these years of trucks since I was really little. I think it was because of when my dad first bought this truck me and him changed the front axle and rebuilt it, and that was one of my first real expirences working on cars.
