Re: Camshafts..

I broke the fitting that screws in the head for the mechanical water temp guage.

I think its 5/8 male npt and 5/8 female compression does that sound righte?

and should I prime the oil system? I dumped the lucas/penzoil in it today

-Set valves
-Drop in dizzy @ #1 compression
-Install carb
-Install the rubber line that splices in the fuel filter (rotten becuase crappy corn gas, its less tan 6 months old!)
-Top off raditator
-Prime oil system
-Fix cracked water temp guage fitting @ block

Thats about it guys...I just need something to prime the oil system with and get the piece I broke!!!

Cant wait to get it sucessfully broken in and driving it

Re: Camshafts..

Well its ready to fire other than I have a fuel filter for 5/16 line and I need 3/8.

So im waiting on that, pouring some gas in the carb for a quick fire and triple checking my work and making sure everythings tight etc

I CANT WAIT TO DRIVE IT AGAIN!!!!!!!

I used 10-30 penzoil with the lucas zinc additive. After break in im putting valvoline vr1 30wt in with a carquest filter

Re: Camshafts..

Good and bad news

I got it running!

The manifolds started to glow cherry red in about 1 1/2 minutes!

The timings at 10* btdc (rotor points at #1) when slot in balancer is at 10*btdc

I never had the t-stat out I just left it in intake it worked when I drove the truck into the garage.

I had a BAD exhaust leak. Going to try to fix that too before I re start the truck.

Water pumps about 2 years old.

HELP WHATS GOING ON?!?!?

Ps, it got up to about 230*

Re: Camshafts..

Ignition timing being retarded to much will do that too...

Were you able to run it for at least 20 minutes at 2,000ish RPM's?

Re: Camshafts..

No. I had to cut it off. It was 230* 2 minutes in!!!!

Lunati instructions said if you have to alter something kill it let it cool and try again.

Its gonna be good this time.

Setting timing @ about 12* btdc (was at about 4*..)

And fixing the exhaust gasket I blew out.

I sure hope its the timing too retarded

Re: Camshafts..

get a big fan and put it in front of your truck and leave the raditor cap off, and run it. I bet it has air in the cooling system, add water to it as the t sat opens.
