Re: 1970 swb c10 build thread

WELCOME!!!Are you really building a frame from scratch for your first vehicle restoration/modification?That's a big chunk to bite off.Steering geometry and such is very important.Looks as if you know fabrication so you may be miles ahead over refurbishing a 40 year old base.Good luck with your project and post pics as you build.

Re: 1970 swb c10 build thread

wow...not many people have a barn like that, tools like that, free truck, and building a frame... I'd say you got it made! welcome and good luck. You can get some good money for your SWB frame once you do the swap....

Looks like a great project! I'd love to have the room/time to build a custom frame. Keep the pix coming.

Re: 1970 swb c10 build thread

thanks everybody. i guess i do have it pretty good but i must say none of it is mine. the barn, shop, and tools all belong to my dad. he is pretty cool with letting me use it as long as i have everything out of the way and ready to work on monday morning. my time is limited as well. i work 5 & 1/2 days a week and have 3 small children so my only time for the truck is saturday afternoon if i dont have to work late. thanks again for the comments and i will post more pics as i progress.

Re: 1970 swb c10 build thread

skchevota you got me thinking so i looked at the original frame today and i think i may have to lower the crossmember but that will not be a big deal since everything is just tacked in for now. as soon as i get the lower arms made i am going to mount the cab and front end and set a motor in place to check clearance. i will know more then. thanks for pointing that out thats why im here to learn.

Re: 1970 swb c10 build thread

man, its been a while since i've been here. well not much progess i've been real busy at work and home. i did change the design of the front crossmember, mount the cab(which i now have a better one) lower crossmembers are bent but not finished. i have everything made for them but i question the material i was going to use for the bushings. now i am going to take the frame to a guy who builds racecar suspensions and have him check everything out so if i need to change anything i can do it now. i also found a 454 and turbo 400 i think i will get in a week or so. this weekend i have to swap the cab and somehow fit the bed so i can get started on the rear susp. i'm thinking about a similar to stock setup but i'm going to build a watts link instead of a panard bar.anyhow i will update with picks when i get a new camera since my old one broke and my phone taks really bad pics. later, chris
