1984 K10 build....

To start off I am 16. I got the truck a bit over a year ago just before my 15th birthday.. I let it sit for 6 months and started working on it in December. not a lot of pictures but some...

what it looked like when i got it and then pulling it into the shop

It had the original 305/700r4/np208 which was basically shot... My dad found a van for $500 bucks with a solid crate 350 and th350... Sold some stuff from the van and got a good drivetrain with accessories for $400 bucks..

the night we pulled it in the shop at 9pm when we bought it... pulled it all apart and got it ready to pull the engine. we were in there till about 1am or so... the next night we got started pulling the engine at about 8 and were in there till 2 or 3 am on a school/work night... we got the motor and trans out though so thats all that matters.. Next time i will be taking a loader and lifting the body off a few inches.... anyone who says pulling a motor from a van is simple has never done it....

then the motor sat while i ordered some parts...

I had my 4 inch lift kit sitting around so i put that on... i would have done 6inch but i couldnt justify the extra costs...

then came pulling the drive train out of the k10...

so here is what the 350 looked like after I got some parts... (all for on sale and ebay of course)

then since the grill/headlight bezels were shot. I got a aftermarket one off ebay and some 85 headlight bezels and painted them satin black (flats ugly and gloss would have been to much IMO I still want to get a 60's "chevrolet" emblem for the grill... you can get em on ebay cheap

after

Re: 1984 K10 build....

so I had a crossbox which i didnt like but its easy storage and free so i put that on...

just screwing around I sat some 37 inch boggers next to it.. and decided they wouldnt fit

also I have wanted it to have a flatbed since I got it... but thats more money that a poor 15 year old doesnt have.... but I also needed tires badly as you can see

my buddy was broke and was done with his truck... they had a z-28 he could have that RUNS haha... so he got that and sold me his truck for $900. it had a 305/sm465/np205... it never died (200,00 mile 305 that sprayed oil out different areas.. ran it to 6500 multiple times untill the smoke started filling the cab... the motor never let go and pured when i pulled it into the shop....

(putting on the 31's from my truck to do some screwing around)

we wheeled it but never got any good pictures

then I did the last damage I could to it... the clutch was shot so getting the tires to spin was not easy

Re: 1984 K10 build....

I am parting out the 77 k10 (red truck) so I stripped it all down and ended up with this

You may have been wondering what my plan for a transmission was. well I figure all old trucks should be a manual so I swapped in the pedals and linkage for the sm465/np205... it was definitely a project and that drivetrain is far from light then we spent a whole day with some guys working on the flatbed (crossmembers) and me and someone working on getting the motor running.... it turned over for a second and fired right up (straight headers in a shop is LOUD) well fastforward a day and It was driving down the road. I was a happy camper for sure

then I worked on the flatbed for quite some time sanding and painting it. It had a crappy wood deck (treated 4x6). So we welded in some flush cross members and then took 1/4 inch aluminum and drilled and tapped it to bolt it down with some special flush mount allen head bolts.... then used some rivits on the centers.... its not totally done but plenty good for driving. i got the flatbed welded on the day before my birthday and the deck put on for my birthday....

i recently went in paint and you can see what I will be doing in the future...

2x3 rectangle tube for the headache rack... and then just very dark stained 2x4 for the side "rack" it will be on hinges so i can drop them down on the side out of the way.... and also a toolbox

I could never make up my mind on engine looks but it now looks like this

I had a friend do some photoshop for me. it looks awesome

the future that may never happen due to the fact that I am looking for a crew cab very very hard...

headache rack/toolbox/side racks for flatbed
Bucket seats out of something
stereo system
window tint
and black hubs
also I will paint it when I paint the future crew cab... otherwise the brown doesnt bother me one bit..

and now that i have a build thread I will definitely be updating this with more detailed pictures and such when i work on it... I've put over 600 miles on it since I did everything... the cooling system (overflow) is an issue though... but it still cools fine...

I wanted more lift before I installed it... But I couldnt afford drivelines.... once I find a crew cab that is driver status and i get it where I want it.. I will probably put this in the air another 4 inches and get some 37's under it.... but that also with come with 8 lug axles

No pics of it with 35's and the regular bed because I never put them on...

these are with 31's and no drivetrain (front end sits way higher)
