67 on a 72 frame

Can you use the front end of a 67 on the frame of a 72 C10? I'd love to change mine over as I love the looks of the 67 more. Thanks.

Re: 67 on a 72 frame

yes you can!!!...you'll need to use the 67/68 radiator support bushings...

BTW...I assume by 67 front end, you mean the fenders, hood, grill, etc...

Re: 67 on a 72 frame

I plan on doing the same thing. I just bought a 72 but prefer the looks of the 67/68's. I plan on using GMC Pauls 68 Body kit which includes the radiator support, inner & outer fenders, hood & doors (mine are rough). He also has a front clip kit as well which doesn't include the doors. I'm going with 68 since I actually like the look with the side markers and feel that it'll be safer with them as well.

Paul Jr. also sent me a complete list of other items that I'll need:

Hi, Matt
To complete the conversion of a 72 truck to a 1968 looking truck using our 1968 Body kit you would need the following parts in addition to those found in our kit
Qty-1 1967-68 Grill- You can add this item in the cart as a option on our body kit
Qty-2 67-68 Grill ovals & clips
If your doing the truck as a 68 CST you would also need L&R 67-68 Front fender eyebrow trim & 67-68 hood edge trim
Qty-1 67-68 Hood latch
Qty-1 67-68 Center grill brace
You can use the 71-72 front bumper with the 67-68 front clip and retain the parking lights in bumper if you prefer if you prefer the 67-68 look then you'll need
Qty-1 67-70 front bumper bracket kit &
Qty-1 67-70 front bumper
Qty-1ea L&R 67-68 Parking light assemblies
Qty-1 67-68 frontbumper to grille filler panel ( This part was used only on 67-68 trucks and closed off the open area under bumper between the radiator support & the bumper. This part is not a must have part and many would not know it was missing if not installed, the adavantage of using this piece is the 67-68 truck seems to run 5-10 degrees cooler with these installed than without them but GM did not feel it was a needed part and discontinued it in 1969 when they changed the grill & fenders & hood for a new look.
When installing a 67 or 68 front clip on a 69-72 truck frame you should continue to use 69-72 radiator support bushing mounting kit instead of a 67-68 Rad. support mounting kit. the reason for this is the 67-68 frame mounts the cushions sit on are flush with the top of frame and the 69-72 are installed about 3/4" lower than the top of frame so for clip to align correctly you should use the rad. support mounting kit based upon year of frame and not on the front clip year as the 67-68 mounts are only 1/4" thick compared to 69-72 mounts being 1" thick.
The hood hinges are all the same from 67-72 as are any other parts, the 67-68 parklights will be able to use the 71-72 wiring harness for them.
In regards to cost to ship to a business address we would need to know the ship to zip code. We do offer free shipping on any non-oversized parts in a order with a parts total of $500.01 or more so any small parts that you might order such as bumper brackets, parking lights, etc... would ship for free, truck freight, oversized I, II, & III items and bulk heavyweight items ( IE- drop spindles, springs, etc... ) do not qualify to be shipped free but the cost of those items do count towards the parts total needed for free shipping on non-oversized items.
Thanks for your interest and I hope you have a very nice day and a Safe & Happy holiday season amongst Family & Friends!!
My Best Regards
Paul Jr @ GMCPauls

Re: 67 on a 72 frame

Yes, that is exactly what I want to do. Had thought about leaving the hood and fenders and just changing the grille section like the 69 has, but love the slanted hood of the 67. What do you think?

Mine is a 68 with a 72 front clip, which I'm switching back to a 68 clip...I like the slant hood also.

Re: 67 on a 72 frame

This is an old thread, but I have a 71, and was scrolling through Craigslist in my area and stumbled across a 68 front clip and cab with shaved door handles, a frenched antenna mounting, fuel neck filler, and everything steel in place (radiator supports and whatnot). The vent window glass is also in place. However, none of the interior (minus the brake pedal, I assume this means the booster is still in place) is there; no door panels, no dash pad, nothin'. The windshield, back window, and side windows (I think) are non-exsistent.

The guy wants $400, and is fairly close to where I am. I can paint the cab and front clip before I pull all the guts from the 71's cab and stuff it in the 68, then all I'll need is a new box, my floor is about as solid as mesh.

My question is, should I go for it? I'm only in high school, so this would be a rather large project. But, is it a good deal? I know if I were to buy all the parts the frontend of my 71 it would cost much more than this clip and cab, but I don't know if I'll need to acquire some different mounting brackets and things like that...

Re: 67 on a 72 frame

Mine is a '71 frame with '72 cab and '67 front clip and doors. The bed? So far 1 side is '67 and I have to fill the marker on the '69 side. The tailgate is 67/68. All this bolts up as if it were on an all same year truck. The only difference is the core support mounts need to match the core support (67/68)

I'd say $400 is a good deal. I've looked at just clips here for $300-$500. To get a whole cab too in that price range seems like a deal if it's all solid.

Alrighty, thanks. It's cool that almost all of the different model's parts bolt right up; kinda like how Chevy and GMC are the same trucks with different logos...

Re: 67 on a 72 frame

Not bad but I think there's something going on with the grill there. Maybe one of the experts will chime in, but it looks to me like someone was going to use different headlights. The bucket area is more square than it should be I think. And it looks all molded in, so it may be hard to get back to stock looking if that's the look you're going for. - Matt

I kinda like the grille that's in it, it has some dual 4 or 5" headlight buckets (I think). Looks neat, very unique. Definitely custom. I DON'T like, however, the fact that he filled the side marker lamps. I want those.

I agree... there has been some customizing done there.
You may need to look into that some more. If everything is customized...
You won't be able to use any of it, unless you continue in the same direction.
fenders appear to have custom body work on the front edge, radiator support has been customized, grille has been customized, hood "appears" stock and if you are ok with the changes to the cab it may be useable.
