2014-up drop kits?

Has anybody had any luck with a drop for a 2014- up Silverado? Looking for recommendations for either 2/4 or 3/5.

Thanks,
Jon

Re: 2014-up drop kits?

4 inch or greater rear drop will require a flip kit and shackle bracket. Different combinations depending on company's. A simple quick drop I do for customers is a 2 inch spindle up front and 2 inch shackle in the rear as well as removing 1 inch factory block. 2/3 drop and change rear shocks. Always use Belltech. Here's a picture.

Re: 2014-up drop kits?

This is my 15' SLE with a McGaughy's 4/7 kit. I didn't use the shock extenders, and it rides really good. It actually has a better ride in the rear with the new shocks. I would recommend McGaughy's especially if you want a spindle as they were the first company with the spindle and I mean, with all the trucks I have had, I have had Belltech, DJM, Groundforce, Eibach, and now McGaughys and I'd have to say that I am most impressed by McGaughy's. DJM is probably the most cumbersome and they have the ****tiest customer service I have ever dealt with but the Caltrax or whatever the drop arms are, they are nice too, just make sure you get the adjustment bracket for the top a arms otherwise you aren't aligning anything.

You get a new sled, JB? McGaughys has been great on my 09. Spindles and struts for a 4/4. I like some rake.

Kind of like what 'Low E' says, my 2011 has a 5/7 drop from McGaughy's and it works really well. I have put over 100,000 miles on the truck since the drop. There should not be that much difference from mine to the 2014 in the suspension area.

I've been looking. We do some lift kits here at work, but I would like to get into lowering a few also. It looks like I will probably have to buy a truck and make mine the guinea pig.

We chose to go 5/7 and then I upgraded with some Belltech items to finish off the install. The front shocks are a Belltech unit, due to the lowering kit uses the factory shocks and I wanted more control. I put Bilstein shocks on the rear and we also put Belltech degree cams on the front to set the wheel alignment properly. The tires wear really well, I get a good 50Kto 60K out of them. They are Nitto NT850s.

I also run factory steel rims in the winter with 245/70/17 tires on them.

Re: 2014-up drop kits?

I am looking at the McGauphy's 4/6 drop part#34170, has anyone installed this kit? What was the difficulty level? Any additional item needed to make it right?

Re: 2014-up drop kits?

Should not be that hard. You may want to get some degree plates to adjust your front wheel alignment after you are done. I also put on a set of aftermarket shocks to get a better ride. The factory ones are a little deficient at the lower end of the stroke.

Also you may want to look at your plastic front fender liners and see if they are going to rub. If you cut a 4" X 4" opening in the top, they then can be heated and riveted to the metal liner behind them. It gives you a lot of room.

That is the kit I installed if you scroll up and take a look. I installed some Nitrogen Gas Shock - McGaughys 2050 and the truck rides great, no rubbing whatsoever and only thing I've seen/felt is the bumpstops in the rear if there is a hard bump or I have a good amount of cargo. Great kit!

I posted this over in your build thread:

"I talked to the service manager at my dealer and he said the only pieces that would not retain the factory warranty would be those that I replaced. However, if they deem the drop caused a failure of other parts they may not be covered. For instance, if a u-joint fails and they attribute it to a vibration caused by the drop it wouldn't be covered by the warranty. Fair enough, I guess it's the price of looking awesome! I think I will go with a 3/5 drop initially since the drop is adjustable. One question that does come to mind is that you all mention changing shocks. Everything I've read says the kit comes with front struts and rear shock, do they not work well?"

I think I'll keep my questions about drop kits in this thread from now on so I don't clog up your build thread.

I upgraded my shocks to different ones from the kit....either that or when I bought it it didn't come with rear shocks....I don't really remember.

From what I can tell it appears they added the struts and shock to the kit recently. No matter, with you guy's input I think this is the kit for me. I'd really like to have a copy of the install instructions, I think I'll contact McGaughy's next week and see if they'll email me a copy.
