'93 2WD S10 on '01 4WD Frame?

My sister just killed a unicorn, my dad had an '01 Sonoma with a 4.3L and a five speed (I think it's an NV3500?), and she rolled it. She's alright, but the pickup body is pretty smashed up. We had just rebuilt the suspension and steering in August. However, dad also has a '93 S10, same 4.3L/5 speed combo, same extended cab/short bed. The S10 has well over 200k miles, the suspensions wore out, it blows a bunch of blue smoke when you start it up, the gears are noisy, it's just tired.

Is there anything keeping us from just pulling the busted up body off the frame and throwing the S10 on it? Everything I'm seeing is 2WD to 2WD or 4WD to 4WD, but the bodies aren't different, are they? Is there a higher hump in the 4WD?

The electronics will be different. the body mounts may be different. Might be an easier idea to find a new to you cab and such for your 01.

Re: '93 2WD S10 on '01 4WD Frame?

The computer that runs the 4.3 in the '01 is under the hood, the '93 has its computer in the cab. The body mounts are supposedly the same between the two generations, my main concern is if they're somehow different between 2WD and 4WD. I guess I'd have to get the anti theft system deleted or else use the column from the '01. Probably have to use the gauges from the '01, I wish I had done that with my wagon.

If we can't just throw the '93 onto the '01 real easy and cheap the insurance will probably keep it.

Pick up a 95-03 4 banger 2wd cheap off of craigslist and swap the body from it. I know how hard to find a 4.3/5spd/4WD is to find, took me a few years to get mine. At the worst you could buy the 01 back cheap from the insurance company, tarp it up and wait for a good deal on a donor body to come up.
