Re: Post your best budget mods! ($50 or less)

Great ideas in this thread. Getting some new led bulbs and paint for my gauges. Also went to Brothers to find the cupholder and they don't carry the one anymore but they have a new one that requires no mods to your ashtray that looks like it'll work ok, if not as f'n cool as the original. Also am bowing down to those who posted info on the AUX jack mod!!! Thank you!

About a month ago I hit a deer and it crushed the plastic grill on my 72'. I was bummed for sure / then as I was cleaning the garage I remembered I had a spare grill for my 63' mercury and I slid it in and it looks great ! I paid $25 for the grill .

Re: Post your best budget mods! ($50 or less)

Best budget mod for under $50 I did was the alternator conversion. Depending on where you get you alternator from (salvage yard for mine), you will stay under the $50.

I did the brown and blue wire snip, connected them together. Works like a charm.

Did you buy it thru a company or a person?

I bought a brand new one from a member off here that he got from LMC for $20. It was a freebee to him after the first one (the manufactures wiring doesn't match the factory wiring), just have to rewire it to match for my GMC.

Headlight buzzer for $10 purchased from someone in the classified. Clamps between two fuses and lets me know when I have left the headlights on (again). I had way too many run down batteries before the headlight buzzer.

Now my alt is completely still while the motor is running and it looks cool too!Hows that for a budget mod

pretty cool idea

Re: Post your best budget mods! ($50 or less)

Here's a mod for less than $20 to fix your windows, if they go up and down slowly (requiring too much force on the handle), or not at all.

Buy two bottles of silicone spray lube. Buy the handle removal tool from LMC or Brothers so you can get the little clip holding the door and window handles on.

Remove handles, and unscrew the screws holding the door trim on set to the side. You now have access to the inside of the door. Spray silicone spray on the tracks, gears, etc. move window down a bit, then up a bit. Spray more spray. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Eventually you'll use an entire can per door, and your windows should work fine, barring any broken parts. Mine were really bad. Passenger side would hardly budge, and I was able to get them working with just this process.

I repainted the needles on mine with a small can of fluorescent orange spray paint. Instead of trying to remove the needles and figure a way to stand them up for paint I cut a slit in a piece of paper and slid it under the needles. Been two years and they're still bright.

I made front shock extenders so I could run stock shocks on the truck after I lowered it. Stainless steel.
Used grade 8 bolts. They have been on the truck several years.
Cost was for 2 grade 8 bolts. $10.00 maybe.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
