Am I missing something here?

Is there a sold feature in the classified sections so you don't have to read through the whole thread only to find out that the item is already sold ?

I have searched and searched but could not find any information on this subject.

No, only if the seller states that it has sold.

We rely on seller etiquette. I always post, SOLD!!, right up front and in the last post. When I'm looking I just zip to the last post to see where things are at.

I’ve been going back and editing the first line, of the first post in the thread, with sold when my items sell.
I also delete some older sold threads.

I believe that you can have the threads come up with newest first and that way you're scrolling into older material. Not so helpful on other parts of the board but might be handy to switch to if you're doing much shopping.
