Question 69 rear end ?

have a 69 c10 short step and pulled the rear assy to do a rebuild, 12 bolt, code stamp on housing passenger side HA0907, if theres another number or letter after the 7 it's gone. the housing axels are 6 lug and 17 spline count, is there something missing, all info I read indicated spline count in lower 30's
hope someone has info on the axles to help I.D. what it is.

I thought they quit using 17 spline in the mid 60s

Re: 69 rear end ?

me to, but they are 17, have to do some research and see if the housing will be good to use with a posi replacement center chunk and axles, another day with the old truck.
we'll keep going, truck is going to be nice, pulled rear end to change bushings etc and por the frame. nothing beats doing it right the first time.

Re: 69 rear end ?

64 had 17 spline axles, 65 30 splines.

Does your center piece housing have the bolt for the panhard bar or is the panhard bar bracket welded to the axle housing? 65 and up had the bolt.

Short panhard bar to the bolt, long panhard bar to the welded bracket.

Re: 69 rear end ?

my 69 c10 has a rear end with 17 spline axles and center chunk, panhard if bolted to the chunk not the housing, think that's a short bar, but question is will any c10 chunks fit/work from later model units ?

Yes, depending on what gear ratio you plan on running. Here's the carrier breaks, Truck 12 Bolt
Series 2 = 2.73 - down (smaller numerically)
Series 3 = 2.76 - 3.42
Series 4 = 3.73 - up (larger numerically) You most likely have a 1964 series 3 carrier. You can run a "Thick" 3.73 or up numerically in a series 3 carrier. You could simply install later 30 spline side gears in your existing carrier if your trying to get away from the 17 spline axles...
