Yikes! Cowls and firewalls are available but pretty spendy. My advice is find a new cab. They are out there and fairly cheap. For a do it yourselfer I would avoid firewall/cowl problems, front window channel and drip rail rot. Good luck with your repairs whichever route you go

Re: The start of rust repair

I'd probably just expose the rusted spots, cut it out and weld in new sheet metal. Most of what you see is flat. Find some old fender, bedside, etc and cut what you need. May have to do a little hammer work, but nothing too hard. A new cab would be nice, but they're not common.

Re: The start of rust repair

In a situation that bad the whole inner cowl more then likely is gone. It will continue down around the fresh air vents and then to the bottom of the door pillars. These trucks are VERY common being parted out and in junk yards. Rust is a tricky thing and is much worse then the surface shows. Only way you really know what you have is if it is sandblasted to bare metal.

Re: The start of rust repair

Thanks for the advice
Wanted to get a feel for what people are doing. Next Sunday i will be taking the cab off the chassis and putting on a home made cab dolly. I'm going to start on the chassis first, but will inspect the cab once its off the frame. Im in no hurry for the cab to be perfect as of yet but will asses further when its off
