Air bag installation

Can someone point me to a thread that shows how to install a basic bag setup for say a 68 swb coil spring truck? Looking for a thread that shows how to install a PorterBuilt stage 1 kit front and rear. Thanks guys in advance.

Re: Air bag installation

Not a Porterbuilt thread,... but a good "basic" airbag thread from our FAQ area.

Re: Air bag installation

Thank you Keith, I'm not quite ready for a bag conversion but I want to start getting all the info I can to make the best decision. Also is there any threads for cupping the lower control arms? I was kinda thinking it may be better to just buy a set of aftermarket lower control arms with bag mounts built in.

Re: Air bag installation

Bag install is pretty straight forward.
Your choice of air management is where you can spend some cash!

Re: Air bag installation

Hey Keith in the link you posted does the front lower cups just sit in the spring pocket or do you weld them in?

Re: Air bag installation

They just set there.
Most cut them down to 1-5/8" to 1-3/4" tall,... to get the maximum drop.

Re: Air bag installation

So in the Porterbuilt stage 1 rear kit does the upper bag cup not allow the rear to sit as low as the way the guy in the link did his rear bag install?

Re: Air bag installation

Another question is I have a CPP notch installed already, if I wanted to go with a Porterbuilt notch how far will the holes be off?

Attachment 1028020
The Stage 1 kit comes with an "upper hat".
This allows for easier mounting and air line install.
I would just use your CPP notch and install the bag directly to the frame, without the hat.
But that will require you to drill 2 bag mounting holes in the frame,... and 1 giant hole for the air bag fitting to pass thru.

The upper hat makes it easier,... and that amount of added height can be offset by using a lowering block.
The rearend center section will hit the bed floor, BEFORE the axle tube is all the way in the notch, anyway.

Re: Air bag installation

I recently installed PB stage 1 in front and stage 2 in rear. Once you look at the pieces it's pretty straight forward. Just a lot of drilling. Once I fix my brake problem I could post some pics if you like.

Any pics would be great. I'm really leaning towards the pb kits when I'm ready. Thanks.

Re: Air bag installation

Here is the Stage 1 kit without a c-notch. Since you have a c-notch, i would just remove the upper cup and that should put you where you need to be or at least very close.

Re: Air bag installation

So are you saying that's about as far down as the axle would go because of th bag cup? Or because I have a notch it would go farther? To me as long as the pumpkin hits the bottom of the bed floor aired out with the bag cup that would be fine ad plus it's much easier I install.

Re: Air bag installation

In that picture, it is sitting on the internal bumpstop in the bag. If you remove the cup, it will move up that much farther until the axle hits the bed floor, which might be about another 1" appx.

If you are looking at the Porterbuit Stage 1, you can always put the cup on the top to see where it is at, and then remove if it is not needed.

Something I didn't see earlier but I have approximatley 1 7/8" in blocks, so really I can probably run with the cup then. Just would be so much easier to install the cup instead of putting more holes in the frame, even though I know its really not a big deal.

I highly recommend Porterbuilt. I have both the front and rear kit, and also the c-notch. There are several pics in my build thread, here are a few
