Help!!! Eaton differential seals

Hi everyone, It looked like i had an axle seal that had been leaking for some time (inside of the rim was caked with grime). I checked the diff and it was low. I added almost a whole bottle of gear oil and figured it would be okay for the rest of the week. Boy was i wrong. The pinion seal blew out. The drive shaft slung gear lube all over the underside of the bed and frame rails. It also misted all over the tailgate and bumper. I was curious if any of you have done a seal job on a Eaton diff and if so, what should i expect? Where should i get the seals? Need help, any input appreciated.

Re: Help!!! Eaton differential seals

There is a felt seal in there that is hard to get, it is available from Randy's Ring and Pinion in Seattle. My local 4X4 shop had a parts break down and i ordered parts from them and NAPA, so you may be able to find a place locally that has one.

Re: Help!!! Eaton differential seals

I just did a pinion seal two weeks ago. Easy! Pull the yoke off, pull out the old seal, clean off the flange, third member, and the pinion. I used rtv on the flange and it doesnt seem to be leaking (truck isnt on the road yet) striaght forward as can be. Make sure you clean ALL the grime out of the yoke before you put a socket on it, otherwise it WILL round off. The socket was a 2 5/8 on mine with a cotter pin. Hope this helps
