Who here drives a 1500?

I have a 2002 duramax but am getting tired of the maintenance and constant Nicole and dime things with the diesels. Additives, expensive parts etc mines got 280k on it but needs injectors so 6 k in parts and labor and about 2k worth of other stuff and just don’t want to do it anymore

Looking at just running a 2015+ newer 1500

What are your opinions

Re: Who here drives a 1500?

Afraid I cannot comment from experience on the 2015 up, but I have a 2011 1500 I purchased new, and if there is one thing I dislike the most it is the AFM (going into 4 cyl mode), and that remains. I remedied it for the most part by putting on a Range AFM disabler, but still wish they never would have done this. Probably one reason I will not have another 1500 in the newer models (and the insane pricing). I have given thought on going to an older 2500 to get away from the AFM, but really do not need the heavier truck and what comes along. If I had only known in 11 I could have bought a 1500 with the 6.2, and got away from the AFM, and had a slightly heavier rear axle, and a lot more power.

That is the biggest complaint I have heard with the newer stuff is the AFM. I have not had to deal with them as the newest vehicle I got is my 2006 Nissan Frontier and it is bare bones. Several friends lost engines because of them or finally disabled it.

Re: Who here drives a 1500?

I have a 2014 Silverado 1500 (5.3, 2wd) that I've owned for about 3 years. Bought with 47k now has about 75k. I have mixed feelings about the quality/durability of these trucks.

So far I have had issues with bent rear axles, slow fuel filling, failing power folding mirrors, rattles under the dash and paint peeling off the doors (white paint). If you search for problems with these trucks online you will also find lifter failure, transmission and high speed vibration (chevy shake) issues.

The problem is, when you search any new truck issues no matter the manufacturer there are all kinds of problems talked about online. So you just have to choose which one is best for you.

I will say the truck is comfortable, gets decent gas mileage and tows well. Plus I like the way it looks.

Re: Who here drives a 1500?

I have been driving a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500, Crew Cab, short bed, 4X4, 6.2 Liter, Denali trim. I disabled the AFM with my tuner at around 5000 miles. I bought it new and have 33,290 miles on it. No problems so far.
