parts truck: what would you strip out

got my parts truck delivered, and the wife wants it out of the driveway soon.
i'm pulling out the front end, rear end, power steering, windshield.
what else would you pull for use later? to sell? to trade? what's your experiences?

Re: parts truck: what would you strip out

I know this doesn't limit it down, but I would be keeping almost everything. From bumper brackets to marker lights, dash wiring to grommets. You would be surprised how many nickles and dimes you might actually need later on. Trevor

Re: parts truck: what would you strip out

Get/keep what you need. Pull all of the other small parts that can be stashed in a cabinet or anywhere out of site and sell them off. Put a cheap price on all of the sheetmetal and see if you can sell it. If not, off to the scrapyard with it. I have a wife that feels the same way.

Re: parts truck: what would you strip out

make money on everything and what you can't get rid of scrap it for cash,..sometimes the roof is needed when someone is trying to chop one and if the bed is thrashed the sheet metal on the side comes in handy when patching or shaving holes.

My wife wants my short bed out of the drive way. She told me one time not to be surprised if I come home from work and it is gone. I dont think she is that brave though

All of yall that sit here and say how much control your wife has over you really make me love my wife even more. She has just as much love for the old car and truck hobby as i do, and wants to keep things that I tell her we will never use. Hell she sees old cars and trucks in fields quicker than i do.

Re: parts truck: what would you strip out

Explain to your wife that the parts that you aquire from this truck will save you money as you won't have to buy them from someone else and pay for shipping. So you'll have saved money so she can go shopping at her favorite stores. She may say go get another one. maybe?

Re: parts truck: what would you strip out

I will leave the wife comments alone, and say keep as much as you can, and then if there is more to take off, take it off and keep it. You will be surprised what stuff you can use, sell, or give away. I have parted out a few trucks that way, and there is always someone asking if I have extra parts...

Re: parts truck: what would you strip out

If it wasn't 300+ miles and a border crossing away and the other side of the bed looked as good as the drivers side does I'd be trying to deal you out of the bed.

If she won't budge on stashing it back behind the garage for a while, pull everything you need or think you need off of it and craigslist the rest.

And right now the way it sits, that truck does look better than the one I am driving. As I could use the bed and both doors if they were good.

I just checked and it's 368 miles one way from my front door to the big middle of Castlegar. And we'd have to get enhanced drivers licenses to do the deed. Plus 225 in gas in my truck.

Re: parts truck: what would you strip out

I can see with all those neighbors across the road why your wife doesn`t want it there?

Some women are programmed to control by their mothers. They need to accept the fact they aren`t the center of the universe (sorry gals) and their husbands have hobbies and find pleasure beyond their wives. If you pull a few parts and junk its hardly worth the effort. It you pick it to pieces there`s enough money to pay for the next honeydo.

Re: parts truck: what would you strip out

If it were me I would keep the whole thing and part it as I had time.

Even cross members can come in handy. My son and I build old trucks, mostly for fun, and every once in a while we need a cross memeber.

Metal is real high around here and we often use pieces of hoods and such as patch panels. My son is the welder/body person and is getting pretty good at patching rusted areas.

I think we have built some where in the neighborhood of 6 so far, but have only sold 2. Only two were frame off jobs and we kept both of them, one for my son's wife and one for one of my grandson's.

I am lucky though, I have no problem storing stuff since I live on a farm and my wife says nothing about our trucks, since I keep the parts ones out of sight.

you'd be welcome to have the bed. the wood floor is gone but the wheel wheels are in good shape. too bad you're more than a few miles away

It isn't about "control", it's about mutual respect for one another.

I don't turn into Fred Sanford, and she doesn't turn into Imelda Marcos.
