rim width???

Is a 235/75/15 wide enough for an 8 inch rim?

Re: rim width???

technically a 235/75-15 will fit a 8" rim, although with that width and aspect ratio a 7" rim would be better.

Re: rim width???

There are 25.4 mm's per inch. Therefore, 235 mm = 9.25" mathematically (different tires will lay down differently depending upon tread, and sidewall height affects how much the tire will "bow" beyond the wheel). With mag wheels, generally I've found the exterior wheel dimension to be about 1" wider than the interior (rated) wheel width. I'm not sure about steelies.

Re: rim width???

I should probably go to a 70 series then.

Re: rim width???

choice of aspect ratio is more dependent on what total overall diameter you are looking for.
235/70-15 = around 28"
235/75-15 = around 28.9"

Lower aspect ratio tires, 50-55 series, tolerate being stretched out on a wider rim better.

If you already have the 8"rim, a 255/70-15 will give a 29.1" diameter, similar to the 235/75-15. If you already have the tire, I would go 7" rim as mentioned. (assuming this being the rears)
