How many car projects?
How many car projects do you have going? I'm just curious how other people approach things. Are you a one at a time or do you get multiple projects going at one time?. How many automotive projects do you have lined up?,like in storage or sitting out waiting for the day. Do you yearn for something and search till you find and acquire or do you just buy things as they come along?,or because they are too good to pass up. I have a ton questions and I ask so that I may understand myself better and maybe even learn something, lately I've been buying more than selling and I have 2 projects going full bore with about 10 on the shelf.

Re: How many car projects?
I've had one major project going on for over 6 years now. I drive it as I work on it which is part of why it's taken so long. I'd like to have more than one, but I'm limited by space, money, and time, but mainly space. Don't have a good place or all my tools to work on one while I'm here at college. Parents threaten to kick me out when I show them a cool project that's available
So far, I like working on one thing at a time. I put the engine back in my Dakota before I started the engine swap on my c10 a couple years back. The c10 is my first major project though, so once I have my own place with room for multiple projects, my ideas might change. Or they won't. I won't know until I get there

Re: How many car projects?
Does having them just sitting there and I do nothing count as a project?
If so I have 2 waiting on me.

Re: How many car projects?
4ish right now. My 72 K20 is a long term deal that I’m currently working on as I drive it. My 57 3100 is even more of a long term project that isn’t running currently and I’ve decided to go a different direction on but haven’t started working on yet. I’ve owned that truck for nearly 18 years now. My 69 K10 is a project I’m going to start on hopefully later this year. It needs a motor and tires more than anything else. Then there’s my 2010 Camaro. It’s my mistress as my wife calls it. I’ve got some nice mods planned for it but am still gathering parts for it at this point. I’m planning and LSA supercharger and supporting mods with a boat load of BMR suspension stuff to get the power to the ground. Looking for 650ish to the wheels. I’ve been looking at C6 vettes lately. That might be my 5th project in the next year or so.

Just 1 of mine. I don't have the space or time to handle much more than that. If I need more, I help others.

Re: How many car projects?
I used to keep several projects going at one time. Now I don't even have several vehicles, and I'm good with that. I own three. The thing is, they are all projects! I admire those who do one at a time. I guess I also envy those who can manage progress on a few. Not me. I could if funds weren't the issue. But that's why even my daily driver is a project. That's my '95 K2500 Suburban. It has a growing list of needs. Plan is to find a replacement driver, and currently I'm considering a super clean, even same colors, '94 K2500 Suburban Silverado at a local lot. The '95 is a base model I use as a truck. I love the beauty and the beast theme and maybe I'll have it. The '95 would become quite a beast, solid front axle, full floating rear, winch, winch bumper, heavy roof long rack, remove second seat and install an 8' slide-out floor.
My '72 K2500 has been a rolling project all along. Right now it sits needing a broken (up in there) starter bolt extracted, and has been sitting unable to turn over. The exhaust was getting weak when running as well as engine, transmission, and transfer case all needing some seal/gasket attention. I'd really like to pull it all and go through all that. I have another 350 ('71 truck) I'd like to be rebuilding (383) while it sits. I have a 4spd set-up I might chose to swap in at that time. Actually, I have that 4spd set-up, K/30 axle set, that other 350, as well as a cab light/ac/high hump cab, hood, fenders, GMC grille w/core support that I would love to find a chassis for to build a beast of a flatbed and keep the K2500 more as a gentleman's restoration, close to stock. So that makes four! The last project is the '67 GMC shortbed 2wd that is a rolling chassis, but have about all the parts including rebuilt 327, M22, 3.42 posi, and all the other goodies. That one is my true project that will come with time. My main project has been my old house, which is the main reason my vehicles get the neglect. I am enjoying doing the house, and one thing I did is build a little garage to slip the '67 into. I have a barn moving project that required building an adjacent pavilion to move contents of the barn into. It is completely dismantlable and the plan is to relocate that to a side space off my driveway to become a carport (at least) for the '72. I like having projects. I'd go nuts without them. Can't let the lack of progress bother me. I have the faith!

One project at a time. 1980 Camaro currently 90% done with a LS3 swap.
But I'm always on the prowl for the next new project. |

I had a 79 Camaro. The only thing I didn't like was the smog choked 305 in it. But it sounds like you have that covered with the LS3.

When I bought the 80 it had a 229 V6 three speed combo. That combo went to the salvage yard.

Re: How many car projects?
I have some logic to my multiple project routine, there always seams to be a snag or some down time while working on a project, too much time and I wind opening up another one. Another gig I have going is a old friend that has nothing to do but babysit a solar farm and get a check once a month,he needs something to do so he wrenches for me (the things i do for people)in his shop on his lift with his tools for 15 bucks a hour,he is just finishing a 70 dodge car. I have a blazer in paint shop so I figured I would swap a ls into the 67gmc as the old 350 is tired,I can now throw the 350 into the least desirable shelf project and sell for project money. If its running and driving and titled its not a project to me but a driver in ever evolution, I only have one of those and its a 67 fbird convertible,I would call it done but others would probably call it a project,so I guess that makes three projects.
On the shelf are 5 blazers in the 69/72 flavors, 2 short wide k10s same flavor,69k10 suburban, one 67 Camaro and a 68, and somehow I got a 2000 escalade for god only knows why. I also have 5 acres at home and 2 acres where I run my money making company,so I got places. Sounds like most you are just as ambitious as me so all in all I feel better and should I die there is going to be some sweet stuff come up for probably next to nothing. |

Re: How many car projects?
i used to keep 2-3 things spooled up, waiting for ready cash or a free weekend. Then I took a project management course at the college for my job, that taught it differently than I learned it in college. this new course said do one thing at a time till its done, and ****can the stuff that is a pipe dream or shelve the stuff that takes you away from the project with the highest chance of success.
I still keep lots of spare parts around, but I have started moving the extras to other people, and my priority list is constantly under review.

Re: How many car projects?
Oh, I just remembered another project I don't even have yet. But I've been offered a rolling Model A chassis from one friend and an engine/trans from another (for free). I'll look for sheet metal at swap meets and depending on what I come up with will determine the build. Might build a Doddlebug, might built a truck that is wood from the cowl back, might have fenders, maybe not, might have a hood or not. Who knows? I just think it would be fun to putt the country roads with something so old

Re: How many car projects?
Five classics vehicles, so - five projects, I guess.
That doesn't count keeping the house, lawn tractors, daily drivers and car trailers going too. K

Re: How many car projects?
My favorite revelation was when I realized I did a farm tractor restoration....and a brick paver driveway (6662 bricks) at the same time.
What the heck was I thinking? K

Re: How many car projects?
I have a couple, but I'm trying very hard to only work on and accumulate parts for one at a time. Sure Ill think and talk about other stuff, but I wont spend any money on parts. I always end up losing doing things that way. Unfortunately Ive been doing it the wrong way for 50 years haha, thats a hard habit to break =)

Re: How many car projects?
I try to have one project I work on at a time but that never seems to work out. Between my vehicles and my fathers vehicles I seem to do mostly repairs anymore. Not much time for a big project.
That doesnt stop me from acquiring future projects when they pop up. I keep a list of wants and if they are local and reasonably priced I purchase and store them for later .I have enough future projects to keep me busy for two lifetimes.
