56 Gmc

Does anyone happen to know the overall width of the axles for a 1956 GMC 1/2 ton. I am still trying to locate some that will work for mine. When I removed the old ones I measured the length but then lost the piece of paper.

Hi Tonn

I have a 56 GMC 1/2 ton. Are you looking for the mesurement from brake backing plate to backing plate or kingpin to kingpin center ?? I would be happy to crawl under my truck and measure for you if you tell me exactly what you are looking for. ...What did you do with the old ones you took out ?

Measurements

I guess in reality I could use both measurements. I just going to go to the axle shop here in town and tell them what I am looking for and see what they can find that is close to the same dimensions. The drivetrain that was under the truck was an original NAPCO 4x4 which I sold. Thanks for your help.

Hi Matt

Sorry I have not been able to get under the truck yet and get those measurements. It has been a bit rainy and windy here in Florida.
As soon as it dries up a bit and I get the downed trees out of the way I will send you that information

HI Matt
Well last night I crawled under Frances the Purple Monster with a tape measure. As near as I can measure the rear axle is 56" and the front is the same. King pin center to center is about 54 " the wheel base is 114". Why dont you try and find a later model chevy truck chassis and bolt your body on?

Thanks for the info. I will have to keep exploring the old frame but I could very well end up going with a late model chassis. Thanks again.
