What is the BEST all around Repair Manual for our Trucks?

I'd like to pick up a service manual to have on hand, there's a couple versions on Ebay. For the guys who have used these, which one is the best to buy that has the most info?

Is this Assembly Manual below any good?

Re: What is the BEST all around Repair Manual for our Trucks?

These are photocopies and horribly done. I bought one. There is a link on the forum a user was super enough to copy the assembly manuals and service manuals for the older C10s. I'll attach the link and be sure to thank them. I can't believe the work involved. Has an index that you will need and the repos have no index. GM manuals without the index are next to impossible to use. One page might be the bumper assembly and the next page an engine mount. Good luck.

I am trying to find an old Motors Manual for my 68. I have used them for other vehicles and they were really good.

Re: What is the BEST all around Repair Manual for our Trucks?

I'd submit you will want the 71 Chassis Service and 71 Chassis Overhaul Manuals as your starting point. The Assembly Manual, though challenging to find what you're looking for in it, is helpful also and a good reference to have.

Haynes for Chevy/GMC 67-87
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/144707277747
Most Chiltons are for multiple brands of truck and multiple years, find one copyright in the early 70s and it will cover the year of copyright and a few years before.

Re: What is the BEST all around Repair Manual for our Trucks?

And I agree with jocko and the 71 Chassis Service and 71 Chassis Overhaul Manuals from Chevy are what have in addition to the more general Haynes and Chiltons. You can get them used or new. I bought mine used from eBay with plenty of greasy fingerprints and notes made by the previous owner.

I'll have to disagree with anyone on this . I'll stick to an actual BOOK ,You know those things we used way back before any computer BS took over the world ! I'm building a period correct hot rod truck like we used to have back in the 70's , These old trucks built America and we relied on REGULAR old BOOKS for technical info we needed to repair them , No computers or videos needed , You would actually have to read the book to gain any information you needed and you learned from an actual Mechanic . I know, I know times have changed BUT I want to be stuck in the 70's ! OR I wouldn't bother rebuilding a 1967 model truck . I still wear white t-shirts and jeans everyday and I don't own any Polo shirts or khaki pants and I'm not about to drag a computer around and out to the garage to fix my old truck and I'm not about to download info packed with trackers and cookies to a device others think I have to use to repair a 56 year old truck . Read the book !

I'll disagree. It's way easier to flip through the actual book to get to what you want. With the GM manual you go straight to the section you want. Look at the index for that section and boom go right to what you need. As opposed to having to scroll pages to get where you need to be. Then have to zoom in & move around on a 5 inch phone screen to read. Not better

Ahh, cool thanks for the links! I didn't realize they incorporated our C10's with the square bodies! Looks like my local Canadian tire has one in stock, I'll go take a look for it

Ok, so sounds like I'll be all set if I download the Chassis Overhaul and Chassis Service Manuals, pick up the Paper Back GM Assembly manual and sprinkle in the Haynes Paper back

Re: What is the BEST all around Repair Manual for our Trucks?

I would definitely have a few "MOTOR Truck Repair Manual" manuals. This is the manual that will tell you how to rebuild things like alternators. I have several volumes spread out every few years. The Truck manuals cover several makes and models. I love them. The 23rd edition covers 1970. But I have volumes going back to 1950s up to 80s.

Factory manuals. I too like a real book with paper pages.

I have two of each of the service and overhaul manuals (originals) for 1968 - they were pretty easy to find on ebay, and the two sets I found were in really great shape.

I'm confused - are the chassis service and overhaul manual downloadable somewhere? I think you'll find that when you're out in the garage, a download will do you very little good - you'll want some greasy pages to look at - then look at the truck - then look at the pages, again, then look at the truck, again.

Exactly! Oof! so many opinions and always nearly at a point of telling others they are just wrong.

I have found many guides good in both forms. Certainly a lot of younger generations will be more likely to do the e-version method and old grumpy men the paper form. LOL.

One GREAT aspect to e-version, a lot of times you can zoom in to look at something.
