Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
Ain't that the truth Eraser!
Little behind on updates. I dissassembled wire brushed, primered, and painted my 52" springs. Just waiting on new teflon pads and center pins. Looks like I have some new plans due to an awesome donor truck I just picked up. DRW 4:10 Dana 60 454 TBI Rear axle need to make sure its a d70hd. Does anyone know? np205 th400 Damn I just drove it around and I like this thing. giving me second thoughts! I plan to run some H1 Hummer military beadlocks with the dually axles and eventually the 454 will go in the burb.

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
Got the Dana 60 in. Well shocks and steering, brakes, driveline and it still has dually hubs but I just wanted it off jackstands
Damn that little bit narrower that the 67-72s are makes this a *****. Plus the weight of the dana 60. Just stayed calm. Pry bar here, mini sledge there, a kick or two for good measure and I got everything lined up. Pretty happy right now. Trying not to think to far ahead for everything else that still needs to be done!

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
Well it is a 68 4x4 but it has the same problem as the 67 where the frame is not "stamped" for p/s I know you have to drill a few new holes and heat the frame up and pound it in to clear the p/s gearbox or add some sort of spacer. I don't think a spacer is a good idea with the frame cracks in these trucks. But My question is what of the orignal three holes do you go off of? I was able to get it in with the two bolts closest to the firewall top and bottom but it doesn't seem right. the bottom front bolt hangs below the frame and the angle doesn't seem right to the steering shaft. Took some pics to help you guys visualize it.
Some pics of successful installs would be appreciated! Also pulled the hydroboost off the 87. For the people that have went to hydroboost how did they go about it? I know its not a direct bolt in from an 73-87 into a 67-72.

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up
I just put the dana 60 dually front and a 14bolt dually rear under a 69 K/20 frame and built this truck.
The front end was a bolt in. |
