Alternative way --Fender Emblems

So I installed the emblems on the fenders or should I say attempted too but I cannot get all three screws in and the rattle was bad, i know there's a few creative people on here, did any of you use 3m tape or emblem glue or something the bolt closes to the doors is virtually impossible to install with the fenders on the truck , just looking for other ideas....
Thanks

Re: Alternative way --Fender Emblems

its a 55 2nd series there is one screw that is too high up on the fender and there is just no way to tighten down and if you don't tighten it , the emblem rattles so I was wonder if anyone has your any type of fender tape or other ways to mount them

Re: Alternative way --Fender Emblems

if I was going to use tape it would be VHB 3m (very high bond). I used it on 60-66 side trim instead of drilling 100 holes and multiple high pressure car washes it didnt budge. it is what car manufacturers use to attach the rub strips and emblems on new cars. you can get it in any hardware store although its pretty thick there, the thin stuff I get at the craft store like hobby lobby. you get one shot at sticking it! so make sure the surfaces are clean clean clean, and make a temp jig from popsicle sticks or something to make sure it goes exactly where you want it.

High up on the fender?

On 1955 the side emblems are BELOW the belt line. There shouldn't be much issue tightening the nut with the door open. I don't have a '56 but their emblems are two piece and above the belt line. If you have stock emblems in good condition I wouldn't use tape because you'd have to remove the studs on the back of the emblems.

Re: Alternative way --Fender Emblems

door open? Sorry I don't understand bud. Theres no access if the door is open, where the front fender and body connect you can't even slide you hand in there let alone a socket wrench. I may have to wait till paint when the fender come off.
I like the idea of 3m may have to stack a few pieces may two bolt and 3m tape on ends?
Painted one looks great!

Re: Alternative way --Fender Emblems

Having same problem on 54 AD. The "push nuts" and crappy chinese metal studs keep coming loose. Going to find some good 3m tape and stick em on and use better "push nuts" as insurance.

Couldn't find 3m at store but they had 30# Gorilla brand double back tape. Stuff absolutely did not stick on clean surfaces and just trying to peel off the backing was a nightmare. Stuff is cr-p and Gorilla company ghosted me big time when i complained. Done with them.

Re: Alternative way --Fender Emblems

Also at parts stores that have a decent auto body section usually carry the 3M tape as well..

good tip and a valid concern. I will say that 99% of all new cars on the road use VHB to install their emblems and the door rub strips, even the little trunk spoilers or other accessories. its strong as hell, the product page I linked says items up to 20 lbs.

I used it on a camera mount that went on the fender. looked impossible especially with that camera body out in the wind but it stuck

Re: Alternative way --Fender Emblems

we use a lot of the 3m tape on body kits and window louver kits
use the 3m adhesive promoter for anything you want to stay attached
works well with stick-on velcro too, trash bag in my dd has been stuck on my dash since 09
