Applying my brakes blows my tail light fuse?

This is in my new 1967 Suburban. So I put a new 15 fuse in the tail light spot in the panel and I have all my lights. When I apply my brakes it blows the fuse and I lose my brake lights and dash lights... I put new tail light bulbs in and cleaned the sockets. Any other tips on what the issue might be? I might run out of 15 fuses in my little town if I use just my limited knowledge

Thanks in advance!

1st place to check would be where someone added a connector for trailer lights.. somewhere between that fuse block and your brake lights you have the hot lead for the brake lights touching ground... pinched wire or more common would be a bad splice.. keep the bean on the road..

Re: Applying my brakes blows my tail light fuse?

Thanks John, it does have a trailer brake setup with a home job wiring setup at the back! As soon as I can clear the foot of new snow off the Bean I will trace the wires and check all my connections/splices. Thanks for taking the time to help me out.....

Re: Applying my brakes blows my tail light fuse?

Here's how I would troubleshoot this problem.
Disconnect the harness plug on the firewall behind the accelerator rod that has the rear light wires in it. Brown, light green, yellow, and dark green. Try a new fuse. If it doesn't blow then the short is in the rear harness. If it blows then disconnect the half moon harness to the steering column.

Try a new fuse. If it doesn't blow then the short is in the turn signal switch or the steering column.

If it blows then check the dome light circuit for a short to ground either in the light or under the sill plate by the drivers door in the harness there. That is a common place for the wires to chafe. If the dome light has been working then that won't be the problem. Most likely it's in the rear light harness.

check the brake light switch sounds like every time you step on the brake pedal you blow fuses ,

In the burbs, the dome light harness is routed up through the driver's side A-pillar with the rear light harness. It passes through holes at the top & bottom that are drilled through sheetmetal and may be pinched.

Thanks OG I didn't know about the burbs. I hope we get feedback on this one.

Re: Applying my brakes blows my tail light fuse?

Reviving this thread...I was hoping to hear what happened as well. It is not my intention to hijack thread, if that's what you call it, but there are so many threads where the result, good or bad, were not documented. I have a similar case of pressing the Brake Pedal and blowing a fuse, but my instrument and cab over lights go out. I'll keep searching, and I'll look into Vettes harness breakdown method as well.

UPDATE: with further searching I found VetVettes post regarding Brake Switch and the White wire which is common to grounding anywhere along the way, even to the turn signal switch...
