If I'm not mistaken this shot is from the John Wayne movie Hellfighters, its delivering powder to a well site to blow out a rig fire, have to watch it again but I think it is.

Re: Emergency Vehicles!!!

Did a little wiring cleanup and polishing/buffing the paint out. Starting to look a lot nicer. Got to put some wax on it.

Re: Emergency Vehicles!!!

Didn't mess with the roof. Its going to need some paint I think. I might just wet sand the roof with 1000, CLR it and hit it with some wax for now.

Re: Emergency Vehicles!!!

That freshened it up nicely. I saw you were looking for lights and siren. I have an antique truck meet to go to later in Sept. I'll ask the firetruck guys and look at the swap meet (very small one). There is at least one vintage fire apparatus club out there. If you joined one there would be no hope of you ever going back to a normal person

Re: Emergency Vehicles!!!

Our fire station has an old 67 gmc water tender they are selling. I believe its the 5,000 gallon version. Has a 401 v6 in it and runs awesome. I'll try to get some pictures next time I am at that station.

You & me both! I'm not a club kinda guy, either. But,I pay dues to ATHS to keep it strong and they give you a magazine with free classified section. I hit a gathering in a local member's shop in January, which is something to look forward to in the dead of winter. There's a Saturday local chapter show 1st weekend of May that I sometimes pop in on,if I'm not too busy. On Father's Day weekend I like to go to the fantastic national show of the ATCA at Macungie,PA and in September there's a Tri-State (MD,VA,PA) show that attracts trucks from many other states. These last two I try to always attend. And those are camp overnight events and have a swap meet. So two weekends a year leave me 50,which ain't too bad. Heck,I'm a life member of HOG and never went to a single thing they do. I just collect the pins & patches they send every year . I mostly joined that when you used to have to be a member to do the Harley Fly-N-Ride thing...which I never took advantage of and now anyone with a MC license (and a lot of money) can do.
The main reason I suggested joining such a club is for a great resource for vintage fire apparatus

Re: Emergency Vehicles!!!

Thanks again Special-K. Just got word from DMV i'm going to have to get a bonded title. Wonder what that's going to cost me. Might just drive it renegade style, no plates. Took it out yesterday for a spin into town and filled up the gas tank. Headlights on 6 volt system totally useless to an old man. My taillight, only 1, burned out new bulbs also during the trip. Just tiewrapped a flashlight to the backend so there'd be something there. Got it to about 47 mph. Yeehaw. Fun driving. Jim

Re: Emergency Vehicles!!!

Here's my old '64 Command Center for the City of North Vancouver Fire Dept. The idea was to customize it and turn it into a food vending truck with original exterior intact, but might have to sell it. Just a cool big van though.

Very few of these semi truck size bread vans were made back then. International pumped out a few, but I've never seen another GM this size. Lots of smaller bread vans out there though. Built locally here in BC from a company that is still around today. 283/4spd combo which runs & works. Just no brakes so can't drive it around. Has a HUGE recovery winch under the rear floor compartment for rescue ops. It's a pretty cool unique bread van which I love as I love all classic bread vans haha

Re: Emergency Vehicles!!!

No wonder I never saw one, they probably never made it to the US. There was a guy down the street from me who had two old bread vans when I was a kid. Can't remember the manufacturer, but they had Perkins diesels in them. We used to play around in them, and he made one into a camper.

Re: Emergency Vehicles!!!

That is super cool. This type of bodies tend to differ from region to region since they were generally built by a company withing that region. We had some different companies in this area. one was Boyertown Auto Body Works. Box vans are a cool segment of the automotive world
