Re: Smooth wiper cowl?

Just trying to imagine it, I'm thinking it might look dumb if it just had holes cut for the wipers, but I dunno. Seems like it would need to be a little more elaborate, like the dished area around the wipers on the factory, fiberglass, or urethane cowl.

I agree, just a hole wouldn't work, I don't think the wiper posts would be long enough & wouldn't have room for the wiper arm to move.
You'd have to do a recessed area more like the urethane cowl.

It's at the painters now. It's getting sprayed probably Saturday.
My painter prefers to paint when the temperatures decent outside so the booth maintains a good temp with exhaust fans on for better results & is also squeezing it in while doing a couple of large restoration jobs.

I'm anxious to get it back but rushing your painter is never a good thing.

Re: Smooth wiper cowl?

Looks great man! Maybe sometime down the road I can find somebody to fab me one to work with wipers. Not sure if you saw, but I did something similar with the wire mesh on mine. However mine is attached under the stock cowl.

Re: Smooth wiper cowl?

Thanks! I am happy with it.
When you stand back the piece just kind of disappears (which is great) or looks like a 73-80 hood where it goes all the way to the windshield.

How much did that piece come out to?

I think the cowl itself was in the couple hundred bucks range.

Then me and a buddy did some tweaking and fitting before sending it to paint.

So to help with this I epoxied a piece of aluminum flat stock to the back side and this helped a ton. But overall it fits probably 8 out of 10.
I know I saw your dually is/was for sale. I'm curious to know if you still have the urethane wiper cowl. If so, would you have interest in getting rid of it?

There's a fellow Facebook group member trying to sell a fiberglass one he bought years ago but sold the truck before installing/painting. He says he test fitted & that it fit good; he says it's a nice piece. I'm just a bit too hesitant to buy. He's 4+ hours away, otherwise I'd drive over & check the fit myself.

Re: Smooth wiper cowl?

Was informed that Grant is producing the smooth steel wiper cowls again. Here’s a link to the site:

https://grantfab.com/collections/wip...oth-wiper-cowl

I’d still like to have one that’ll accept wipers. My Tahoe is no longer a daily driver though, so maybe I could get away with what’s available.
