12 volt alternators

Are GM, Ford, Dodge, or other makes pretty much the same?
It seems to me that 12 volt alternators should be basically the same.

They can be, depending on manufacturer. Bosch makes them for all kinds of applications.

The operation principles are the same but each make has its own construction, mounting & type of regulator.
