Re: Door insulation

For years my truck was very quiet inside. I had worked hard to set up door gaps and it paid off. The door seals are shrinking now and it's messing with them. I used rubberized undercoat in the doors then painted rust-oleum in there afterward. Make sure you have a good seal around the windows and that should help also.

Sorry... didn't notice that your truck is AD. My suggestions may not apply.

Re: Door insulation

I used tar like stick-on stuff inside my 53 doors, stuck to the inner outside.

Re: Door insulation

You might want to snoop the car audio guys to see what the latest hot lick thing they are using is.

A few years ago they were using some dense stick on stuff on the insides of the doors to deaden the sound. Basically it was to cut down on any drumming that the panel might have going down the road.

I've been thinking about lining the whole inside of my cab with lizard skin when I get to that point. Including the insides of the doors. Then fatmat or some other insulation for heat and sound.

Re: Door insulation

The door windows in AD trucks were never designed to be exactly water tight. That’s why they have drain holeS on the bottom of the doors. Just make sure whatever you put on the backside of the door skin is good getting some water on it.

Re: Door insulation

1p2m is right, door seals are most important for noise. I do weatherstrip and door seals, nothing inside the door at all. I seal the firewall completely, add a couple foil backed asphalt patches on the firewall and floor. then a thick jute pad on the floor (about 15 inches up the firewall too) and nice cut pile carpet. you can have a quiet conversation at 70mph with just that.

not saying you cant get the noise floor lower, i just havent had any luck with spray on stuff or stick on stuff like I have with thick jute on the floor and good door seals.
