Re: 69 Chevy C20 HO52 full floating rear end drum brake removal/installation.

There's a mistake in post #17.

Once you've torqued the inner not to 50-60lbs while rotating the drum. You then need to back the nut up 1/8 of turn.

Install the lock washer and torque the jam nut

Question Re: 69 Chevy C20 HO52 full floating rear end drum brake removal/installation.

Is this the right seal for the HO52 axle?

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: 69 Chevy C20 HO52 full floating rear end drum brake removal/installation.

Normally I don't like bumping old threads, but I've been referencing this one a lot in the last week. Unfortunately I've run into a few bumps and could use some input.

For starters, my truck is a '63 with a HO72. When disassembling, my hub was missing the lock ring. Instead it went Nut/Washer/Nut. I ordered the locking ring and will install it correctly as Nut/Lock Ring/Nut/Washer.

Next the main reason I dissembled mine was to replace the parking brake. I bought them off Inline Tube and they seem to fit perfectly.

However, when I reassembled everything and went to adjust the adjuster, I spent 20 minutes "turning" it, but it never tightened against the drum. I took the hub off again and think that it's so bound up on the retaining spring below it that it's not allowing it to turn.

Looking at other pictures on this thread, it looks like the "newer" model trucks had the locking lever for the adjuster, where mine has no such provisions. I'm wondering if it is supposed to be tight against the spring as a way to "lock" it and keep it from spinning.

Regardless, I'm stuck and frustrated and can't figure how to get this thing to tighten against the drum. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's been a while since I've looked at these, but the 1st thought I have...doesn't one end of the spring have a longer 'reach', that helps clear the 'star' adjuster? I could be wrong, but that comes to mind. Hopefully others will chime in..

CivilEGR, I couldn't tell by the pic but the long shoe goes to the rear, the shoe with the short lining goes to the front. See that green spring, it has a long prong to clear the adjuster wheel. The locking lever your seeing is the automatic adjuster that gets actuated when your backing up and apply the brakes. Can you back your camera up and take a pic of the whole assembly? Maybe snap a pic of the other side before you take anything apart...
