Re: Best Paint Match for 1972 Saddle Interior

I have some dark saddle from the part place and it’s looks like the shade of your door panel. My dash pad is done in that and the steering wheel is more like the arm rest

Re: Best Paint Match for 1972 Saddle Interior

I went with the OER product because they call it “Dark Saddle” unlike LMC Truck’s ColorBond product they call “Brown” plus I had a few things to order like weatherstripping and took advantage of Summit Racing’s free shipping on orders over $99. Lastly, the OER product is made by ColorBond the same manufacturer of the paint/dye LMC Truck sells and I’ve had good results with the ColorBond blue on a previous project.

I used a Parts Place dye. I think the one you showed looks better. That '72 Vette Saddle looks right to me.

Re: Best Paint Match for 1972 Saddle Interior

So, I used the 68-69 Saddle 4319-56 from Corvette America, and added a satin clear. It appears to be an exact match to the backs (no sun fading) of my 72 door panels. Will be going with this color for my interior on my 72.

I'm restoring a 69 with saddle interior as well. Can anyone confirm the saddle in 69 was a lighter color? I have nothing to work with to compare, the truck has no original interior parts to confirm color. What is the the best match paint for the 69?

Regards

Re: Best Paint Match for 1972 Saddle Interior

AZ,
That Corvette America 4319-56 Saddle I posted about was for my 69. The original color (in my 69) is the lighter saddle and the 4319-56 w/a clear coat is still the best match I have found - and I have tried 7 or 8 others. The original 69 Saddle colors that saw very little sunlight over the years like the back side of the sun visors and backside of the door panels, etc... match almost perfectly with that paint/clear combo.
Good luck!

Re: Best Paint Match for 1972 Saddle Interior

WannaBE,

Thanks for clarifying. After..... a long story ..... and some phone calls, I realize the folks restoring my seat belts did not order the paint I requested they use, (4319-56), but instead ordered the 4321-53 for the 72 seat belts, which turned out to be exactly the correct color for the 72, so please disregard my last post.

""Correction to last post""

Corvette America "Dark Saddle 4321-53 base cote, with Rustolium Christal Clear Enamel top cote is the perfect match to the back side of my 72 door panels.

I am ordering the 4321-53 for the 69.

Thanks for your help!!

Re: Best Paint Match for 1972 Saddle Interior

Here’s some more Saddle info...

These are ACC carpet samples I got from Stockinteriors.com for another project. The Saddle Cheyenne Super seat upholstery is from Truck World. I ordered 521 Dark Saddle from Summit Racing because they price match Rock Auto and do not change shipping & handling.

Re: Best Paint Match for 1972 Saddle Interior

Here are door panels and arm rests ordered from the Car & Truck Shop. I was hoping the door panels would be made by Counterparts but no the case. Counterparts armrests and Dashtop door panels. The door panels are horrible quality. They are a cheap hard plastic like Halloween decorations. Colors are no where close. Looks like I’ll be dying another set of GM door panels.

Re: Best Paint Match for 1972 Saddle Interior

Another attempt to match 1972 Saddle. This time as you can see it is with OER PP817 Light Saddle. The cap is a perfect match so I thought I was on the right track. But wrong again. Way to light and gold tan in color.

Re: Best Paint Match for 1972 Saddle Interior

I’m restoring a 72 k20 with original saddle interior. After trying many different dyes and combinations, I found the Corvette America "Dark Saddle 4321-53 base cote, with Rustolium Christal Clear Enamel top cote to be a nearly perfect match to the backs of my original door panels. I don’t think you could get any closer. It is also complimentary to the truck world seat cover vinyl and dark saddle carpet you show above. I’m using the same products.

I don’t, and I’m out of state. I’ll try to get pictures next week when I return. The color looks off until you do the clear, then it looks perfect.

I was just pointing out none of the colors will look the same as original with the different sheen. I'm wanting to match the color, too. You pointed out the same difference between the Counterpart arm rest and "dark saddle" painted door panel as I did comparing the paint I used with the original door panel. More red in the correct color. I never installed those panels I dyed with the speakers cut into them. I was just check the thread to find out what I used so I can do some other parts before doing the fresh-up. Once my originals come out I'm taking them in to get scanned

Re: Best Paint Match for 1972 Saddle Interior

Go back to posts 12, 13 and 15. I show a couple of things I used the corvette dark saddle base with a clear on top.
Over the last year/ish, I've compared "my" color to several original saddle parts that have never seen the sun and the match is near perfect...

Re: Best Paint Match for 1972 Saddle Interior

Looking back through some of my posts, they are confusing, so I just want to clear up my findings. I’m restoring a 69 c10 with saddle interior, and a 72 with saddle interior. I found the information provided by WannaB68 to be spot on for the 69 saddle color. For the 69 interior color, Corvette America Saddle 4319-56 with a clear top cote is a near perfect match.

I found the 72 was a little darker with a little more red hue. I found Corvette America Dark Saddle 4321-53 with a clear top vote to be a near perfect match for the 72 only Saddle color. I’ll try to post pics in a couple of weeks when I return home.

Re: Best Paint Match for 1972 Saddle Interior

Unbelievable! After spending $15-20 per can for OER or SEM products. I see a Facebook post for Rustoleum “Chestnut”. The post was by a very accomplished builder out of Souther California named Fidel Limon. I am ETREMLY satisfied with the color. I used a spray adhesion promoter then a medium coat of the color followed by a light coat of matt clear.
