Dana 60 with Truck Arm mounts. I'm jealous.
I have the Eaton in my 65 C20 you can't do anything with.

Actually, it's a 79 GM 14-Bolt with 4:11 gears.
I think the Eaton I had in it before was 4:56

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

Rebuilt my first carburetor a couple weeks ago.
The one on my 66 acted weird. The truck would backfire when I hit the gas, it would also bog.
Put the rebuilt one on it today. Man does it run nice.

Any idea the width difference between the two?

I'll guess 3/4 inch wider each side for the 14-bolt. 1-1/2" total.
That's what I think I've read.
You might find an answer in one of these two threads:

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

Been having trouble with it running rough and backfiring when I rev it up.
Idles really nice though.
I've swapped out the distributor, I've checked the timing, and I've swapped the carb to the fitech from my 65, and still acts exactly the same.
.
Next I'm going to check if the timing chain hasn't skipped a tooth.

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

You've probably already checked, but I did a stupid thing twice on my truck. First time was when I first changed the plug wires. I had two wire right next to each other on the cap switched. Idled fine but couldn't drive it over 1500 rpm because of it backfiring a ton. Second time that happend was after the engine swap and putting an HEI dizzy in. Swapped two plug wires again and had a heck of a time figuring it out because I was certain that I had wired it correctly

Yes, I did check that, but I'll check again. Thanks

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

Moved it into our other barn.
I'm going to tinker on the motor some more and see if I can get it to run nice. It's no fun reaching over to access the motor. Maybe I'll build some scaffolding around the front . But I'll start with doing a compression test and then a leak down test. Depending, I may just pull the front clip off to make tinkering on the motor more enjoyable.
I don't mind on my 65 because it's a lot lower.

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

Okay, digging in to this backfiring again. I want to sell it or trade it for an old StarCraft boat.
Taking it back down to my house today and will pull off the front clip so I can get access to everything and step through everything again. Not even going to bother with the carb at this time. The Edelbrock runs great on my 65. I even tried my fitech. I've switched distributors. Still the same issue.
I'll start with cranking it up to TDC on the compression stroke and see where the distributor points to.
Then probably pull the timing cover to make sure it hasn't skipped a tooth.
After that, I'll pull the valve covers and make sure all the valves fully open and close.

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

Did a compression test. #6 is about 10 psi less than the others.
I squirt some oil in there and it's still the same. Sounds to me like a valve issue with #6.
.
I put all new plugs and wires on as my last check for the back fire issue.
But it makes no sense to dump money into gm Goodwrench heads, so I'll either pull them and try some lapping or buy a nicer set.

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

With the new plugs and wires it fired right up. Dialed in the timing and very smooth running. I revved it up to about 1500 and not an issue.
I'll probably check the compression again on #6 to see if running it for awhile changed anything. The motor had been sitting for awhile without running.

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

Installed a Carter P4070 inline electric fuel pump as a primer pump.
I was looking for an electronic pump to prime my edelbrock 1406 carb so i wouldn't have to crank and crank just to fill the bowls before it would start.

Turn it on just long enough to fill the bowls.
Start the motor and turn it off.
Works great.

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

So the new plugs and wires fixed the backfire issue completely, yes?

Sounds like your starter is going to be happier too

Re: My 66 Service Truck Build Thread

If any of you have been following this thread and my 65 thread, you'll know that I change directions a lot.
I have had my 65 back for I think 10 years now and I still haven't got all the upgrades I wanted to do to it done. So, my latest direction is to move my 65 cab and front clip over to this 66. The 66 already has power steering, power disc brakes, a 14 bolt, and a low mileage 350.
The whole downside to the 66 is how bad of shape the cab was in.
That is my goal for this weekend.
I'll load up some pictures a little later.
