Drive shaft ujoint straps

Swapped out the 63 rearend for one out of a 71 went in without a problem ,that is until I went to bolt the rear DS up. The straps are to small from my 63 to go into the 71 the holes are 3/16" to narrow. So the parts guy gave me a new strap kit MOOG 330-10 they are the right spacing but the bolts are biggir and wont fit in the yoke Parts house was closed by the time I got home plus its 35 miles 1 way ,keep telling myself to drill them out to the needed size. I have a 69 C-10 and they are the same as the 63 I guess I could swap the yoke, Any advice would be great about now

Re: Drive shaft ujoint straps

Can you use the old bolts with the new straps?

Re: Drive shaft ujoint straps

They are u bolts not straps ,my bad ,63 are 5/16 and the 71 is 3/8 " diameter bolts or close to that size . I would have to go measure for sure, so I went and looked and the pad that the u bolt slides through is 1 " on the 63 and on the 71 it is 1 1/2" I wonder if it takes a strap and bolts any one have a # book 63 is 3896838 and the # on the 71 is 3856525
Looks like I need the straps as the yoke is threaded ,see sometimes it pays to talk to yourself or think outloud .

Re: Drive shaft ujoint straps

I have a 1972 c10 with 12 bolt rearend. My pinion yoke takes the u joint straps. It took me about 10 years to find out where to get them. And I'm not joking. I found a set on summit. Yukon gear makes them but they want $40+s&h. Which is ridiculous. One day I was explaining this to a friend of mine and he suggested that I try the local napa store. Not feeling to confident about it I went in asked the counter guy and he knew exactly what I was looking for.(he owns a 72 c10 swb.) Sure enough he had them in stock. For about $10. I was expecting at least $20based off the ones I seen on summit. Try the local napa. I will try and find that box or at least a part number if it helps.
