Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

WELL "stupid is as stupid does" when I went to my friends house to measure the vent window channel parts I failed to measure the actual channel opening and width. Of course when it came time to put everything together it should have been no surprise certain things didn't fit right and the window did not roll all the way up. I will show what I did to fix it. The window regulator has to be notched anyway and I thought that was going to be enough, but my channel was still a little too wide and I had to notch that as well and put a couple of (temporary spacers in photo)spacers at the bottom of the channel for proper clearance from the regulator/scissor mechanism.

THEN AFTER fixing my screw up I can attempt to do it right the rest of the way

Turned the truck around to work on the right side window and disassemble the bed a little later for painting and finish off some work with the rear suspension.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

Well I learned my lesson, I bought some kitchen cabinets made out of particleboard when i had my garage built and had too much weight in them and I heard this loud crash..... thank the good Lord I wasn't standing at my work bench. So I bought these steel wall cabinets by "NewAge" the other old cabinets that did not fall off the wall with the black doors are wooden and don't hold any heavy items. I just painted them and put new handles on. I couldn't afford to get three more cabinets so just made do with what I got plus the wife wasn't going to increase my allowance no body tells u when ya get married your own money will be rationed out to you.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

Another reason it's taking a long time to get the truck done is becoz I am so easily distracted by other folks trucks. I went to the 2016 SEMA Show earlier this month...... OOOH MAN!!! ALL KINDS OF AWESOME RYDES!! But ya know I have to tip my hat to you '67-'72 C-10 guys, your trucks are just out of this world.

You had a lot of work getting the one piece Windows to work!!
You're not the only one having problems to get it to work right so three attemps isn't bad at all
Truck is looking great!!

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up

Very nice BC on the windows, my doors are mostly preped and ready to start the glass install, waiting for the glass channel to get here. My original regulators are toast so i have some new aftermarket ones to use hope they work as well. Have watched the Blackdiesel videos multiple times but seeing someone else get it done is comforting. A couple questions. What did you do to tie down the bottom end of the rear channel when you got it a working? And did you end up doing anything with the top end of the front channel to tie it down? Thanks for and suggestions

Yes Slammed57 I have the stock door latches, and striker plates none of it original all brand new. I stress brand new because i saw a guy turn a corner on a frwy exit in his fully restored'56 Chevy truck and his passenger door flew open. I pulled along side of him and told him don't feel bad the same thing happened to me that's why you don't use the old door latches and mechanisms. He said he was going to replace'em asap. He was white as a ghost he nearly had a heart attack it scared him so bad.

Yep Bear claws are better way to go. But i haven't had any issues with my new parts so I am just going to stick with the old set up. I saw a '57 Chevy truck at the SEMA show with the manual one piece glass set up bear claws and couldn't figure out how he had the room to position the metal channel for the felt and window. I am sure there is some one on here that shows how it's done I just haven't searched for it yet.

Thanks for comin' by to take a peek. When you get the window figured out with the bear claws keep me posted I have a couple friends doing the same as you, but have not yet gotten to the point yet in their builds.
