Re: Project Tahoe on a Budget
It would be a nice DD, but I told my wife I would stop trash pickup if she would let me buy this and it will be my trash truck! I have to drive way to much for work and plus I have a STS that rides way to good..

Re: Project Tahoe on a Budget
I had clear corners w/ orange bulbs, crystal clear parking lamps w/ orange bulbs and projector headlights in that pic, also I had a stock plastic airdam
which is the best looking in my opinion for a clean look! The rollers were 20X8.5 BOSS 304 super finish, which was a combo of polished face and lip w/ gray painted finish in the lug coves and inside edges, I couldn't find a nicer wheel for the money back in 04' I believe I paid $750 shipped from Big Jims Rims in Texas to my door in Mass. Definitally look for BOSS wheels on ebay, the 338 is a great looking wheel and there's a place in Miami selling 20x8.5's in gunmetal finish or black for $638.00 plus shipping. |

Ya it was, I wish I drove it more often I only put 6000 miles on it in 5 years
and by the 5th year I had to replace the lifters because I didn't drive it enough! |

Re: Project Tahoe on a Budget
Well that just made my mind up on the head lights. I was looking at the same ones and could not find anyone running them, but you have them and I like them. And I like the way it sits too. Sweet ride.
Thanks, Trav

Re: Project Tahoe on a Budget
Well, a buddy and I started at 9am and worked to 4pm today and it was a long day but it's on the ground. The only thing we did not do is the c-notch, that will be in the next week or so. And I will cut or heat the front springs, I need to get it down about 1" or 2". But it's one step closer.

Re: Project Tahoe on a Budget
Looks really GOOD!
What is the total drop in these pics? Cut those fronts springs,... don't heat them.

Re: Project Tahoe on a Budget
Looks really good. Definitely cut the springs. Mine were heated and were downright dangerous...the passenger side spring broke due to the stress...and they were binding and popping on each other as you drove....so cutting is the way to go.

Re: Project Tahoe on a Budget
I wonder if the springs may settle some once you drive it a little and bring the front down some more.

Re: Project Tahoe on a Budget
i dunno about cutting. you still weaken the spring when you cut it. but then again i don't think they make a 5" drop spring so cutting might be the way to go on this one. its just i've seen bad things happen when springs have been cut.

Cutting springs can be done, and is done sucessfully all the time. Don't use a torch. Use a cut-off wheel in a die grinder. That keeps the spring cool. Even in the old days springs were cut with a torch, while the spring was in a bucket of water. A good formula is: 1/2 coil removed = 1" of drop. What bad things have you seen with cut springs?

Re: Project Tahoe on a Budget
the only thing when you cut a spring is that the cut part doesnt fit whell in the springpocket you might need to heat up the end after cutting and bend it so the last coilwind is about level again

Re: Project Tahoe on a Budget
Looks great Travis. I agree with the general consensus. I have cut many springs over the years with no adverse affect.
Another thing that will clean your front end up and is budget conscious is adding clear corner markers. They look just right with the clear headlights.

I agree, nothing wrong with cutting springs.
