Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics

well I have a summit brand, 600 cfm double pumper carb, I bought it new last christmas. I put around 1000 miles on it no problem, but then it started acting up. sometimes the rear floats flood, sometimes its the front. ive repeatedly adjusted it, even torn it apart and cleaned it. It still wont stop flooding. verrry frustrating!

Thanks for the kind words, I thought it was pretty good for a 17 year old kid workin on it after school, no body shops, no paint booths, no motor shops, just me on my own and a very tight budget. so far i have less than 2000 in this whole truck!

Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics

Hey dude nice truck you got there! Man, I'm in the same boat you are in! I'm 17, operating on a budget trying to restore my Grandpa's old truck he gave me back when I was 13. Its a 1989 Silverado C1500 with a 350 and 700R4 tranny. Only has 122,690 miles on it. My granddad bought brand new back in '89.

And man, do I have memories of riding around with my grandparents in that old truck. My granddad passed away in November of 2007. Now, I have the truck. Shipped it all the way from Mississippi to Washington State!

Heres the thread I made of my truck, has pics of it too in there: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=424169

So far, I've pulled some of the interior. Gonna get them recovered and i've done other maintanance to the engine. Just need to get it painted.

Good luck on your truck dude!

I have a line on an edelbrock 1406, for 100 dollars. supposed to be fine, the guy just needs it gone. Should I try it out?

I wish I could help you with the carb. issues. I quit using those a long time ago because of the same frustrations your having. I assume you have a couple of filters before gas hits the carb? I wonder if debris is keeping your needle slightly open? Sure hope you figure it out so you can drive it without flooding.
$100 sounds cheap enough for a known good carb.

Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics

I bought that edelbrock, and I also bought a holley pro-jection fuel injection kit. I then took apart my holley double pumper and cleaned it. there was trash in the needle i probably didnt get the first time. I think a fuel pressure regulator might help too, ill finish this thing up later and see what I find out.

Yeah! You have to work with what you got. We've all been there.
But this is a learning time. And you seem to be doing well.
At your age, I had a 75 Camaro, With rotted out quarters.
Made new lower quarters out of sheet metal and a pop rivet gun,
Bondo, and shot it with a rattle can. LOL
Your off to a great start

Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics

I've never sprayed a vehicle with rustoleum or valspar, But I do spray chassis
parts with rustoleum. I like the durability of it. Plus it's easy to touch it up.
But here is another members truck(americanmus1e) sprayed with rustoleum.
Here is were he posted it, It looks pretty good.

Re: My 70 barn find build. TONS of pics

thanks alot everyone, I know my gas tank is screwed, im looking for a replacement for not alot of cash. I am thinking of placing a fuel cell inside my toolbox so it is concealed.... Hmmmm

updates... I took my edelbrock 1406 off and replaced with the holley double pumper originally on the truck, it had trash in the needle seats, keeping it open. It runs well now, My next project is gonna be exhaust. I have a set of heaaders that I am depating on putting on, I just dont know if I want to deal with the hassle, Ive heard headers are prone to blowing gaskets.

I also want to put mufflers on the truck, I cant decide between 18 inch or 22 inch glasspacks, because I want to keep the old-school growl, just not quite as loud as the straights.

I bought a really nice kit from Early Classic enterprises. Drop spindles, springs, shocks, shock relocators, super trac bar. Every peice was perfect and I went 3 1/2 down in the front and 5 in the rear.

It rides and handles great

thanks. I used 4 inch coils in the back but it netted 5inches. The 5 inch coil would be perfect. I have decided I am happy as it sits tho.
