Real Deal Rear Tow Hooks? What Are They Worth?

Recently got these hooks in a parts deal and I believe them to be the "real deal" accessory rear tow hooks offered by GM dealers but not optioned from the factory. They are beefy at 6 lbs. each, 6 1/2" long, 4" wide at rear of base and 5" tall. Bolt holes are 5/8" dia, 2 3/4" C to C at rear and measure 4 3/4" C to C angle measured from single front hole to rear double holes. Looked at the thread board member "dazza" posted in the 67-72 parts forum (Tow Hooks-reear) and these seem identical to me. No weld or cut marks, could use a media blast and repaint. Looking for some other opinions here before I post for sale. Also would like a $$ value for them. Will offer in the parts forum after some hopefully returned feedback.

Are these the same? I can't really tell with the black paint.

Re: Real Deal Rear Tow Hooks? What Are They Worth?

John, that is the thread I compared mine to and to me they are the same. I would bead blast and prime gray which would give a better view of them but right now the outside temp is 22 with wind blowing and the gargae is unheated. I'm ready for spring and cruising weather, LOL.

Re: Real Deal Rear Tow Hooks? What Are They Worth?

How much are GM rear tow hooks worth? More than '72 extreme bend tow hooks. They are more rare. I have a pair and I wouldn't sell them for any less. Extreme bends are rare, but we see them for sale here periodically. Compare that to how many times you've seen rear hooks

Re: Real Deal Rear Tow Hooks? What Are They Worth?

Special-K, is it your opinion then these are the fabled original GM accessory offered rear tow hooks? I've never seen an actual known pair in the flesh so to speak but these sure look to me as the ones pictured in the Accessory Book. Care to give me a ball park value? Would like a fair price for both myself and buyer. They do have a part number but hard to read under the several coats of paint. If it was not so damn cold in the unheated garage (22) I would bead blast and prime. Then could see the numbers better.
Numbers look to be: 33366 RH 33365LH but hard to read.

Re: Real Deal Rear Tow Hooks? What Are They Worth?

I think it is hard to put a value on them because nobody can really say these are the real deal 1972 rear tow hooks. There are quite a few hooks floating around out there that look real similar and i believe someone was making some not long ago. The 72 front extreme bends bring good money because they are rare and would be listed in the glovebox door. There is no mistaking them! I consider the rear hooks very rare and very common at the same time since there are so many similar ones to the picture in the book. Hope that makes sense. I think your part number could be mid 70s possibly. If they were mine i would put maybe $150/offers on them.

(this is all my opinion)

Re: Real Deal Rear Tow Hooks? What Are They Worth?

The extreme bend hooks are factory installed,so on the SPID...of the truck they came off of. But,just about all the people paying all the money for them are adding them to trucks that did't have them,so not on the SPID. So,you can't say their value is the price you pay to be 100% correct. The rear hooks were a GM accessory,so they can be put on any truck from day-1 and be 100% GM. There are all kinds of hooks, but only one GM 10-30 accessory hook. These look correct. The reproduced ones I can detect. The tip of the hook is different. The casting is off a bot from original. I feel they are worth at least $300,but honestly I'd check current extreme bend prices are go by that. They are certainly worth as much as the more common 69-72 hooks.

Re: Real Deal Rear Tow Hooks? What Are They Worth?

special-K, thanks for the reply to the rear tow hooks and suggested value. I had them listed for sale on the 67-72 parts forum and a buyer has already optioned to buy them. Offered them at $150 plus shipping which I am okay with even tho not the value you suggested. Now that I know what a true set of accessory option rear tow hooks looks like and a value I have a bit more knowledge of these trucks. Amazing the amount of knowledge I have learned and am still learning from this board. One of the best things I ever did was finding this site and some of the best money I've ever spent was becoming a dues paying member. THIS SITE TRULY ROCKS !

Slightly similar set of hooks on my shelf for comparison - you can see some differences if you look close:

Re: Real Deal Rear Tow Hooks? What Are They Worth?

See on these shown above? You can see the hook extends a bit too far and is more blunt. The longer tip seems to change in angle (or just straighten out),as if it was stretched while still hot. Those were great replicas that will do the trick and were a great price. I bought a set when they were offered. It's one of those things that has to be pointed out, compared, discussed, and debated,so that says the repros do the trick just fine...except not the actual GM accy...for those who care
