New front shocks but truck still bouncy

My '64 has new KYB front shocks yet it still bounces going down the road. It has that boat/floating feeling and it bottoms out easily. The new shocks did not change anything.

Could the springs be weak? They look like they have been cut. I have stock front springs that have more coils, so I am wondering if the front springs currently on the truck are from another vehicle with a lower spring rate.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Cutting the spring can change its spring rate some,And if they are factory springs thy could be wore out also.I would replace them with the springs you got and see how it rides after.

It may be in part to the springs, but you would also benefit from rebound adjustable shocks to help control the spring.

If you can get me some measurements from center of shock mount to center of shock mount at your drive height I could get you some options to look at.

thanks

Well I may have solved part of the problem as a coil was broken and it appears the springs were cut. The spring on the left is an unaltered stock spring.

If you are looking for some new ones, we should have our new Hyperco Dual Rate springs ready by the end of the month.

I finally measured the shocks from center of eye to eye at normal ride height. It is 11". Very short!

Re: New front shocks but truck still bouncy

If you did a pair of 22139841 HQ shocks it should fit in your current range. The 22139841 Shocks have a collapsed height of 9.15" and an extended height of 13". They also have a wide range of dampening adjustability.

Check it out here:

Thanks for the help, but I cannot afford $390 for two shocks. Damn.

It does ride a little better. I think the KYB shocks are just too soft. I can compress them without very much effort. I may buy the Monroe shocks for an RV that will work.

Re: New front shocks but truck still bouncy

After driving more today I am afraid part of the bounce issue comes from the seat. It has been redone but is crazy bouncy!

Re: New front shocks but truck still bouncy

Yeah you might want to look in to stiffer shocks,Or maybe even stiffer springs.
