Cool Ya Know...

Sometimes I hate the search on this site.

What's involved and how tough to shoe-horn a 454 into a 73 Blazer, currently with a 350??

Re: Ya Know...

PM Jonboy or Capt Kaos. They will be able to answer your question specifically. Since the trucks were available with a 454 the frame wil take to a big block just fine. You will need motor mounts, radiator and mounts, fan shroud and cover. I'm sure there is more but that's a start...

Re: Ya Know...

If you have the HD cooling, you will not need to mess with the radiator, shroud, or any of that. My 73 pickup was originally a 454 truck, that had a 350 put in, and replaced with another 454. They used the same frame mounts for all three engines. We swapped a 454 engine in my 74 Blazer, and used the original frame stands there, too. The 454 should bolt in, but make sure you upgrade the cooling accordingly. The TH350 will stand up to a stock 454, and the 203 case will be fine. Try to get all of the brackets with the 454, and you should be good to go.

Re: Ya Know...

I'm in luck as my 80 K10 (with a 350) has a 4 row 454 cooling system. I'll just swap that to the 73 and see what happens.

The 73 Blazer is my BIG project. Lots of plans. And working on the budget.

But, will be next year before anything major happens. I'll document and write it up as I go.

Trust me, guys, you'll hear from me.
