Yep. And I intended the 99% meaning... in this case anyway, haha.

I think that it's cool that you're putting a CB in. I guess I coulda simply said that, haha. Thanks Low Elco.

Thanks man. The PO installed a CB with a NMO mount in the center of the roof. So I have a 3/4" hole that I wasn't sure what to do with. Putting in a CB with a new antenna seemed liked the easiest thing. I haven't had a CB in 30 years...did some research and it seems like maybe CB radio is dead? Guess I'll find out.

Now it's my turn, haha: What's an NMO?

Even if CBs have slowed down, I bet they'll come back. Too many hobbyists like us out there. I have four of them.

I had to look it up too! In fact, just to remove the old mount the OP had on the roof I had to join a CB Radio forum to ask a few questions. Seems NMO stands for "Non Motorola"....which apparently is just the new style of antenna mount that seems to be the universal standard.

Bought a vintage CB to complete the look. Hoping to start putting the interior back together in the next few weeks.

Nice project! Where did you find the vintage CB at?

Thanks Hart_Rod.

Did some research on what were quality CB's back in the day and began looking on Ebay. Found a guy in Florida who has a small shop and sells a lot on Ebay. I ended up buying one from him

looking good and making progress . I am doing a C10 the same color red (I think). I have been using Krylon sunset red as a similar color for parts or areas that are not directly next to the original color, I think it matches pretty good.... just FYI..

Thanks rodstored. That helps. I keep trying different paints and haven't quite nailed it yet. I'll try that one. Thank you.

Re: Starting the interior of my '84 K5

Thought I'd post an update of the final work on my interior. It wasn't meant to be a complete interior restoration...just wanted to clean it up, take care of some rust issues, and make it look nice.

After I painted the floor with POR 15 I then used 2 boxes of KILMAT I found on Amazon. It was just enough to do the entire Blazer plus the sides of the rear cargo area.

I then put down extra Jute padding in the rear cargo area and glued on the wheel well carpet pieces.

And then the rear cargo area carpet, rear seat, spare tire carrier, and side panels. Found the panels on Facebook....not perfect, but pretty darn clean originals with no speaker holes.

Re: Starting the interior of my '84 K5

I then moved up front to work on the dash area and the sound system. First I pulled the ash tray out and removed the cigarette lighter and drilled the hole out a little bigger for a USB charger. The guy who rebuilt my AC Delco radio added an AUX input and an input wire that I also added to the ash tray.

Repainted the dash speaker brackets and found some new speakers with a small tweeter.

Then I did a bunch of research about a quality kick panel with speaker cut outs. Couldn't quite find what I wanted at LMC, Brothers, Classic etc. They were either sold out, or I had to move the emergency break, or I had to relocate the hood release. I ended up finding these on Ebay. Cheap Chinese plastic...but they fit perfectly. I beefed them up with some KILMAT.

Re: Starting the interior of my '84 K5

Time for the radio and CB.

I bought an original AC Delco radio and had R&B Vintage Audio rebuild it. I went with just an AUX input, but if I had to do it over, I would have also added bluetooth.

The PO cut the dash for an aftermarket radio. I put a patch in, but I didn't do a good job. I tried a combination of welding and rivets. It worked fine, but you can still see where it was cut after the bezel was installed. Think I'll tackle that next winter.

The PO also had a CB antenna in the roof with a 3/4" hole. The antenna was outdated, so i added a new Larsen NMO 27 whip antenna and a vintage CB I found on Ebay.

The old antenna mount...

...and the new Larsen.

CB and radio installed....

Re: Starting the interior of my '84 K5

Did a lot of cleaning, prepping, and painting of interior plastic. I didn't document much of this. I do want to publicly thank member TKCR for her kind of generous advice as I restored my seat belts. I reached out to her with a few questions and she replied several times with detailed advice expecting nothing in return. My work is certainly nowhere near the same quality as hers, but I am happy with how all the plastic came out.

Cleaning it up....

And putting everything back together...

New front seat upholstery from Classic Parts. The rear seat is in nice shape so I opted not to do it. Might do it down the road just so it all matches.

At 6'2" I am certainly not a short guy, but I always feel like Blazer seats sit too low for my tastes. I raised these up 1.5 inches with some box iron.

And a new dash from Cheyenne Pickup. Very impressed with the quality and look. Went in easy and looks great.

Re: Starting the interior of my '84 K5

Rear scuff plate from Irish installed....

I run 35's but could only fit a 32 as a spare...

New sill and threshold plates....

Added an air dam. I know a lot of guys take these off. I like the look.

And she's ready for summer....

That's all for now. Going to enjoy it this summer and then think about taking care of the chassis next winter. I've also got some rust where the cap meets the body that I need to take care of. Hope you've enjoyed.
