Is it possible that your "daughters truck" ( she needs an avatar name ) had been in an accident? Two trucks put together to make one?

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB

I can ask the PO. The only damage he told me about was that his Grandpa had hit a tree and buckled in the front fender, which is still there.

I will have to ask her what she wants to use. She has been calling the truck "Abe" because she wanted originally to paint it copper colored. (after seeing the satin or suede paint jobs on here, she is leaning more that way now though) Or were you talking about her having a separate avatar on here?

Anything, as long as we have a reference to who's asking the question or who were addressing.

Nice project! Sorry to see the surprise in the pan. It'll be cool to see another youth into vintage trucks. Especially a young lady.

aerotruk63, my daughter uses blondiek on some of her "sites". I can just refer to her as that if it would help. She doesn't get on this site, I usually find things, and then show her. She is just learning about cars and trucks, so a lot of it, she doesn't understand. I am obviously still learning as well too!!

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB

Well after all of the wondering about why the truck appears light green, but the build sheet says it's light blue, I was looking through the pictures I have of the truck, and found the one of the plate in the drivers floorboards that says the color is 503 which according to aerotruk63's color chart is light green.

Why would there be the difference between the plate on the truck, and the build sheet?

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB

Could the seat have been changed? Did the VIN on the seat build sheet match the Vin on the door frame and the Stamped number on the frame?
That plate looks like it has been double stamped or re stamped at one time

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB

your trim tag that shows the 503 paint code is from a 1966 truck.the dead giveaway is the 327 engine specs.the 1965 and earlier half tons did not list the 327 engine on them.1966 was the first year for the 327 in the half tons.so something has been changed on your truck.

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB

Very true Aerotruk!

So according to her VIN, the truck is a 65, with a 66 250, and a 66 trim tag (the plot thickens) I will try to talk to the PO today, and see what he knows. Thank you for the info Collins10672!

Aerotruk asked me a similar question in the build sheet post Bubba. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=325054. I will have to double check that when I get home tonight. I think it does, but not 100%. I know I saw it on here somewhere showing where the frame was stamped with the VIN, can anyone tell me where to look. (edit) I looked up the location on the frame rail on here. I will check when I get home.

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB

All of that debate, and it comes down to I didn't check the numbers!!!!

The serial number on the build sheet, doesn't match the door jamb/frame/title.

What is strange though, is that the numbers are only 23 apart, and my daughters truck has all of the options (except the light blue color) that are listed on the build sheet.

What amazes me even more, is that someone changed out the seat, and left that paper in there.

I am planning on looking behind the tank this weekend, MAYBE we will find the ACTUAL build sheet for her truck!!!

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB

So both VIN's start with C1545Z? Wrong seat went into one of the trucks....
plate was re-stamped to correct the factory screw-up. Someone gets accessories/option they didn't order. Was the difference between the two that blondiek truck got built first, got some blue paint on it , then the mistake is determined and they paint it green? The plot thickens.

Her actual VIN is the lower of the numbers. The C1545Z is the same.

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB

I was looking through a partial 1964 Chevrolet Truck Data Book, you could order the full depth foam seat without the Custom Comfort option. Everything in the option was available separately as a dealer installed accessory.
There's also a section on tires but they do not state what came standard just different codes for optional tires and wheels.
Very interesting truck she's got seems there's history/mystery behind it. 23 apart sounds to me like a factory blunder unless by chance they built the two trucks for the same dealer then one gets parted out for the seat into hers, sounds a little far fetched.

bubba327 has a blue one! Hey Bubba, check your VIN against the pictures I posted earlier. I may have a build sheet for ya!!

I was thinking that swapping the seat, and having the serial numbers be that close, does seem far fetched, so I'll bet it was a factory flub.

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB

I do not think that I still have a build sheet behind the seat. I will check again.
Funny story about the VIN, I transferred the title when I bought it, But when I got plates a year later I noticed 1 digit was omitted from the VIN on the title. A trip back to the local DMV and a title search showed a typo had occurred from 1996 when it came in from Arizona. I am third owner since then and typo has passed along on all titles. It was corrected with no problems.. I was a little worried for a while.
Have you checked the frame number stamped on the frame rail?

Sorry, I just noticed that you had checked the frame number already.
Not a build sheet to be found. Was not one when I pulled the gas tank either. Heck-- I have changed most everything anyway....
I went Elk Camping for a couple of weeks and I am trying to catch up on all the builds -- Sorry,I skimmed some threads and missed some parts . Too many to catch up on!!!

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB

Well, finally getting ready to get some parts on order. So I have a few questions. The only update on the project for now is that we have the engine / trans all cleaned, and ready for paint.

First question would be, has anyone used Duplicolor rattle can paint on their engines? My daughter said she would like to just clearcoat the engine, because she likes the patina on the valve covers, intake, and oil pan. Duplicolor does have an engine Clear, but I don't know if it needs the primer base. If it needs the primer, then we might as well paint it a color.

We are planning on using the wiring harness out of the '75 for her truck. Has anyone done this, if so, can you give me any pointers on using it? What to watch for, what not to do, etc.

Also, When ordering the wiper switch, and the headlight switch, would I still be able to use the stock style ones? Would I still need to to the headlight relay update?

Electrical updates are coming up, but the next step is swapping the front ends and the rear axles. Captainfab referred me to ECE and CPP for the rear axle mount saddles. I found them on ECE's website, but can't seem to find them on CPP's. Does anyone know the part number, or have a link to where they are on there?

I guess that's enough harassment of you all for now, I'm sure there will be plenty of other questions that will be popping up.

I have not used that paint, but if the clear is meant for high heat areas like the engine, then I would think it would be ok. I think the clear over the patina would make a nice touch for sure.

Re: Shoestring Budget 65/73 Chevy 2WD LWB

I found that adding the relays for high and low beam sure help the headlamp brightness by eliminating the voltage drop through the switch and the dimmer foot pedal. I added the brighter wattage headlights I scrounged from Jalopy jungle.
When I upgraded to a internal regulated alternator (63 amp) that also brightened up things. I am now at 14 volts under load .
I can help you out with any wiring questions.
