1977 C10 Factory A/C INOP

Ive got a 77 c10 silverado with factory a/c. Everything is under the hood complete but a/c compressor pulley has come apart and there is no belt on it. I would like to get it back working but I know very little about a/c. I know I need a compressor but Id rather not spend alot on it right now because I plan to eventually LS swap it so it will all be taken back off eventually. It has a all orginal 350 if that matters and I believe a A6 big compressor currently.

Does the centre of the compressor pulley turn or is it seized?
The A6 is a pretty tough critter. They eventually wear out but they take a heckuva beating before they do.

Re: 1977 C10 Factory A/C INOP

Assuming it is just the AC clutch assembly that is broken, that is replaceable without replacing or removing the compressor from the vehicle. The replacement doesn't even break the freon seal.

Put a gauge on the system to see if any refrigerant is in the system. If there is, your seals and hoses might still be good. If not, do a vacuum leak test. If that proves out, then proceed with the clutch replacement. If the hoses to/from the compressor are original, they are most likely EOL and need replacement.

A few tests before you start might prevent the compressor repair, then finding the hoses are shot and need replacing, then a new dryer and orifice/filter tube.

If it hasn't been converted to 134, now would be a good time.

Yea I just checked it and everything spins pretty easily I can spend it by hand. This is what i was looking for you guys are slick. I didnt know that pulley could be replaced easily. I figured it would need a new compressor

I kinda doubt it does still have any freon being that it has sat in a scrapyard for years until about 6 months ago. All lines and wires all appear to be untouched though so I may dodge a bullet lol
