One moved in next door. Supposedly "abused" by her husband.

Re: Dumb stuff that you've done
Another story- A friend of mine and I managed to make a small batch of sulfuric acid the hard way, by burning a small amount of sulfur from his chemistry set and collecting the smoke, and then adding hydrogen peroxide. It made for a quite dilute mix, so we were driving the water off with his little alcohol burner when he splashed some on his hand. I don't know which was worse- the fact that the mixture was near-boiling or that the solution was strong enough. Boy, was his mom po'd! Our ultimate goal with that sulfuric acid was to make gun cotton (Nitroglycerin using cotton instead of glycerin, as it's a lot more stable). Of course, we'd have had to also make the other acid, but that kind of got sidelined.

Re: Dumb stuff that you've done
Here's one:
I bought a set of five 6-hole 16" wheels from a junkyard to put on our old Suburban. The bolt pattern was correct but the center hole was too small, so I got a neighbor to cut them out very nicely with his plasma cutter. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Well, it turns out there is this thing called "backspace" The wheels fit perfectly, except they go in too far and hit the tire rod end and won't rotate. But of course I had him do all five at once instead of just one to see how it fit. So I couldn't take back any of them. Since then I bought a GMT400 pickup which the wheels originally fit, but I'm afraid the wheels aren't safe to use with only the lug nuts for support.

Re: Dumb stuff that you've done
They make such a thing...? Why? How many people are cutting out big holes in these wheels? Do people put 15" wheels on the 88+ pickups?

At least you know what's coming. I get boxes delivered and I have no idea what they are.
It's kind of like Christmas.

While at that job I had to remove an electric actuator from a control valve. For some reason this particular actuator was on the same circuit as the control system and I really did not want to shut it all down. No worries, it's only 120VAC and I've pulled that hot a dozen times, right? When I stuck my screw driver in the terminal slot my teeth chattered for a few seconds. I was standing there wondering how it could happen because I had done this in other areas with no issues at all. Then I realized I was standing on a conductive floor with conductive shoes on. I then went and spent the time to do a proper shut down, lock and try like I should have done in the first place. Haste is not your friend.

Re: Dumb stuff that you've done
So a few years ago my truck of choice was a 49 F1. Being a street rod it sat pretty low in front and I had to drive up on some short ramps to get the front end up in the air to get the floor jack under the cross member to get it up on jack stands The rear was no problem to get up. Well in my haste to lower the truck I decided to lower the front first on to the ramps then went around to the rear and raised the rear axle off the stands and got them out of the way. proceeded to slowly lower the floor jack and all of a sudden the truck started rolling off the ramps! The floor jack was still under the pumpkin and when it hit the edge of the concrete at the door opening it stopped. Good thing the garage door was up and I was able to roll out of the way. I'd forgot to put the truck in park before I started lowering it. That one could of been ugly!

Re: Dumb stuff that you've done
In the mid 70’s when l was in the 10-14 age range, Evel Knievel was at his peak. I bet this pic was on a Saturday afternoon about an hour after Evel had cleared 13 buses. I don’t know anyone in the photo, but this was typical in the area I lived after a big jump on wide world of sports. Gotta love the unconcerned adult watching the mayhem

Re: Dumb stuff that you've done
It was pretty early in the morning and coffee not done yet when I was sprinkling my buttered toast pretty heavily with cinnamon sugar from a glass shaker we keep on the table. The look on my wife's face was pretty much priceless as she asked "What are you DOING?" as she laughed. If she could have just kept a straight face for a few seconds, she would have seen me wolf down my toast that I put a massive amount of Old Bay seasoning on, which is also in a glass shaker at the table.

I'll eat jalapenos anytime, over okra. Never acquired a taste for that stuff. YMMV
