Need some info

I have a 465/205 combination that I bought 15 or so years ago and put in my Jeep. No tag on it. It’s all together in the truck so I can’t see what input it has. I took the front output off and counted 30 splines. I also need the spring and retainer and rest of the hardware for the shifter stick where it goes into the top of trans. I’m looking to order parts to at least reseal both trans and tease. When they talk about the 32 spline upgrade are they talking about input or output? Any upgrades that should be made? Thanks

Re: Need some info

32 spline upgrade is for front output shaft
205s are very tuff...if it needs seals ,id just reseal it and roll with it
ORD has seal kits as do many other suppliers

for sm465 parts you might look to novak

Re: Need some info

I don’t believe that there is anything really wrong with it. It drives fine and doesn’t pop out of 3rd gear or whatever I have been hearing about. It just really has a bad external oil leak. That’s it. I also have to change the front output yoke to a fixed one to get a driveshaft for it. Thanks for the response.

Re: Need some info

Front output should already have a fixed flange on it. Keep the flange, they are stronger than a yoke. Stock flange should take the GM 3V ujoint, size wise they are inbetween a 1310 and 1350 u-joint---which makes for a pretty damn strong CV assy. That is unless you're rock crawling and running 37'' plus tires. the front joint at the pinion is the weak link and also the 'fuse' so to speak

Re: Need some info

Ok. Thanks. It’s a CJ8 so it should be light and it has a 250 6 cylinder in it so not a lot of power. Running 35’s and still have the Dana 30 with a Detroit locker and 4.56’s. Plan on getting chromoly axles for it. AMC 20 in back with 1 piece axles Detroit locker and disc brakes. I’m going to try and mess around on some rocks but more for the mud.

Re: Need some info

Your issue is going to be with the AMC20 with bending the housing

Re: Need some info

Yup, the housings are only about 3/16 to 1/4'' thick.

Re: Need some info

Make sure you get the gaskets for the trans and T-case when you order the seals... Do not seal with rtv or anything like that... you must use the proper gaskets with no sealant, gasket only. Just in case you didn't know.

An add to that would be to go over everything with a good flat file to knock down high spots and sharp edges, both on the case and retainers

Re: Need some info

Ok. It’s been a while since I put it together but for some reason I am now thinking that I used etc instead of gasket. I am going to order all the seals and gaskets and start there. Are all the kits the same? I know I have the figure 8 tcase adapter and the trans has a cast iron top. Thanks everyone for the info
