Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures

here is the bed in my 57.
1 coat of dark walnut stain and 5 coats of helmans spar varnish.
one day i need to sand it and add a few more coats of the clear. the heavy grains soaked up a lot of the clear.

If it's for show and not hauling I'd be thinking some sort or graphic, pinstripping, etc.

Ok...Mine isn't an older truck like yours but still has wood so I thought I would throw it out at you all. I used oak with automotive black thinned down and then shot 10 coats of clear over it. Tons of sanding in between each layer. This was more work than the body work! lol

I used oak plywood, cabinet grade, stained and completely sealed with epoxy and varnish. Got to install SS edge strips yet! Heck of alot cheaper than oak boards!

The cypress looks very good!

I like the diamond plate idea too. That is what I have been thinking about doing for a while.

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures

Here's my later model truck, sorry it's the only picture I can get my mouse on right now. I used a 4X8 sheet of oak plywood from Lowes, had them cut it into 12" wide sections, the length was cut at home. Used Minwax clear after a coat of Thompson's water seal on the bottom and edges. The polished stainless strips are from Classic Parts. Considering the truck lives outside with a tonneau cover that is usually removed, the wood has held up pretty good. I'll probably replace it next spring (last time I checked the sheets were about $40.00) and use the old ones for garage shelves.

Oh, if anyone is wondering.....The tool box is a "trailer tongue box" from Harbor Freight. Bolts through the floor and plenty big for roadside tools, jack, etc, and fits under the bed cover.

Re: Bedwood/bed floor ideas ond pictures

Carefully cut and pasted the floor out of a dakota. It's the right length and the wheel wells lined up. Most S10 floors are too short and have to be extended.
